Guest FrankyG Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Just crossed my mind, but it seems like everyone agrees (except Telco's) that the charges for SMS are way to high, so why don't watchdog or similar take an interest, as they have done with call charges? I hate sending regular SMS now, after using Planus...feel that I'm getting ripped off with every one sent :!: Just to mention again, great job Planus team!! Seems like there is only posts in the Planus area when there are problems, and I ain't seen to many of them! FrankyG
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 I know how you feel Frank!! Prices in Denmark were silly at one point too, but all it takes, is for one company to emerge, and the rest will lower their prices! I just changed companies, so now I pay 0,- a month for my plan - 2p for a text and about 10p pr minute calls! And best of all, the company just got GPRS and MMS - so it's 3 months of FREE testing - before they come with the actual prices, which they promise will be lower or just around what Orange offers at the moment! So I'm a happy camper! But like I said, all you guys need is one lil company - trying to bring the others down *smirk*
Guest FrankyG Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Yeah, It would be tidy if it worked that way, but it's not for nothing that we have the 'Rip-off Britain' tag :D I detest corporate greed, but I won't rant here :x Can't help thinking that the Uk Telco's are clawing back revenue from those 3G licences they splashed out on, and that overall cost of mobile phone ownership here won't fall for quite some time. Hey, I'm glad you got a good deal on your contract anyway, it's nice to hear when someone is happy with a purchase/good deal  FrankyG ps Isn't everything else expensive in Denmark :!: :?:
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 ps Isn't everything else expensive in Denmark :!: :?: lol - yeah I spose that's what most people think! But there are lots of benefits as well! At present time, I pay 40% taxes - get around £400 a month from the government - just to attend school .. and (just to compare) a job at McDonalds give about £10 an hour (before six o'clock *rofl*). So I would say that life in Denmark (as a student anyway *S*) is heaven!
Guest FrankyG Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 a job at McDonalds give about £10 an hour! STILL not worth it
Guest Posted June 13, 2003 Report Posted June 13, 2003 Can't help thinking that the Uk Telco's are clawing back revenue from those 3G licences they splashed out on Absolutely! They certainly are not making any money from the licences that they have paid for (Hutchinson (3) are the only one to have launched yet, and they are desperate for subscribers), but all the telcos that have bought 3G licences now have a huge hole in their budget- and unfortunately its existing customers that have to help fill it! Another thing to note – One2One (before it became T-Mobile) for years focused their company on creating growth, attracting new subscribers and reducing “churn” (customers leaving to go to another network). Then, about a year before becoming T-Mobile, they shifted the focus of their corporate strategy away from growth towards making profit. Costs went up, and ratings of customer satisfaction went down. It wouldn’t surprise me if Orange were now focusing more on creating profit than increasing growth or reducing churn – hence also raising prices on “non-core” services (such as http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php?t=66120 >International SMS, which is not used regularly by the majority of subscribers).
