Nokia 3510i vs Sony Ericsson T310

Not for me I hasten to add.

I am buying a present for my niece's 14th birthday. She wants a colour phone, I assume with good games and pretty colour things. I suspect she does not need MMS as she is on Pay As You Go. When I went into a few of shops they all immediately pointed me to the Nokia 3510i, but based on the specs. and a quick look at both phones the Sony Ericsson T310 looks much better and is quite a bit smaller.

Anyone got any thought on:

a) Why all the sales people pointed me to the Nokia
