Guest matrixmorty Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 I formatted my 256 MB Transcend SD card with my computer using a card reader. When I inserted it in the phone the phone answered with this message: "alert: Would you like the system to format the Storage Card folder so that the system can use it?" I then pressed "Yes", thinking that the phone needed to format the card in it's own way. To my surprise the next message then was: "alert: An error occured while formatting the Storage Card folder (error code 1400)." Now the card does not respond in neither the phone nor the card reader. I've tried the following since: - Reinsering the card into the phone (several times). This only results in the same formating and error code. - Formating the card with Task Manager (corfirms succesful formatting, but the problems are the same). Has anyone experienced a similar problem? Anyone with a sollution??? I desperately don't want to buy a new SD card!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Welcome to the site  Cards have been known to fail and if you have tried everything you have mentioned I cannot think of anything else to suggest at the moment :D m I'm not 100% sure why the phone asked if you wanted to format the card, unless the card reader did not format it correctly. Were you powering up the phone when you had this message? The card should be under a manufactures warranty so you should be able to ask for a replacement.
Guest matrixmorty Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 The phone was running on battery power only. Does that matter?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 No that should not make a difference, but you could always try to format again with the phone in the cradle but I do not think it will help. If you say Task Manager formatted it correctly will Activsync see the card?
Guest matrixmorty Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Strangely enough the Storage Card appears both on the phone (Smart Explorer) and on the PC (Explorer), but it cannot be used to export/copy files to. So you could say it works semi properly, but still cannot be used. Formating while on external power didn't work...
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Just thought, you have'nt got the security switch on the card set to on have you? That would stop you copyingexporting files etc.
Guest matrixmorty Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 Hehe, I wish  But, no. It's not switched on... Are there other ways to format the card? Thanks for SUPERfast replies, by the way!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 14, 2003 Report Posted June 14, 2003 I though it was a shot in the dark but you never know. Other ways? not that I'm aware of, sorry :D As I posted earlier (and I know it's a pain) but try and contact the supplier of the card as cards do fail and you should be able to get a replacement with out too much hassle. And you're welcome
