Guest drblow Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 I just noticed that in the Orange directory of SPV surfable websites (in their 'today' section of the Orange SPV website) that there is a link to a site for movies (I think it was called pocketrocket - or something) which requires pocket TV to run. I know that pocket TV are looking to get certification, but I didn't think they had it yet. Does this imply that Orange have now realised that the certification of software is pointless - or at least accepted that most SPV users have now decertified their phones, & would anyone think that we might see certification removed from the next major update - whenever that may be! Just curious for some other opinions.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 Orange Emblaze player is a signed and freely available mpeg player...
Guest drblow Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 Eh, what??!! :? What do you mean? I meant that because the official Orange website directory has a link which requires pocket TV, which is currently unsigned - does that imply that they are relaxing their use of certification. Know what I mean??
Guest JoelRae Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 I had a quick look at the site just out of interest, and I think I noticed one site that it recomended you downloaded a palm OS player for ... could it be this directory is just a re-write of a general "small-screen device" directory? Dunno  Well spotted anyway  Joel
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 What Mono means is that will the emblaze player that Orange supply play the movies that you are refering to? PS Can you give a link to the relevent page on the Orange site.
Guest JoelRae Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 Here's the orange site ... I think the point being made is that it's an Orange directory aimed at SPV users, but it says that Pocket TV is required for the PocketRocket site  [EDIT] Damnit, can't see that link workin cos of the quicklinks, but I'm sure you'll get there somehow  [/EDIT]
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 15, 2003 Report Posted June 15, 2003 Yep you're right Pocket TV :? very strange, but they do have a disclaimer at the bottom  It's also strange as the matrix clip they have plays in Media Player so why recomend a third pary app ?
Guest drblow Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 Sorry if I caused some confusion here!! (not that I'm implying that you're all thick!! ) I'm just referring to the fact that because Orange are posting links to sites which require unsigned apps - does that suggest that they a) know rightly that most spv users have decrtified and :D may be relaxing their attitude towards cerification My main reason for this is that I'm wondering if future Orange OS updates may be decrtified?? Is that clear enough for everybody??
Guest JoelRae Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 Surely they have records of the number of "developers" who've used the OTA unlock method ... quite a few I reckon  So yes, I reckon they must know that everyone has unlocked their phone but I don't see any reason for them to relax their stance on certification as it's another safety clause for them while the bugs are still being worked out of the OS
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 If you want to spent a scary ammount on a signed app
Guest drblow Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Pocket TV is signed.. look on handango AH! So then the link they put up was because pocket tv is now signed!? Oh bo**ox! And a full hearty laugh is in order at the price of it!! Well, they did a good job of alienating most people with their comments on here, so why not alienate the entire spv population with their price, eh!!?? anyway pocket mvp was always better ...
