Guest tekin Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 hi all. just unpacked my spv and it's receiving it's maiden charge. have searched around the forum and there's some really useful info here. but i was wondering if there is a proper newbie getting started guide anywhere. something that explains what to do and what not to do when you first get your spv. e.g. which updates to install, unlocking/decertifying the phone, which apps to install, which settings to fiddle with to improve performance, etc. basically a guide that will take a fresh virgin spv and get it up to speed. if such a thing exists, then please point me in the right direction. if not, has anyone thought of writing one? thanks, tekin
Guest DamianJauregui Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 Check out the Articles section of the forum. Loads of stuff in there. Maybe it should be renamed to 'Getting Statrted'...

Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 16, 2003 Report Posted June 16, 2003 Few startup jobs you want to do are as follows: First and foremost call Orange and ensure any services you want are enabled, MMS, GPRS, SMS etc. Then ensure the latest firmware build is installed. Programs > settings > About. Operator should read 1.3.5 at least. Change a few basic settings on your phone to speed it up (not so important post-update) Set the multipress timeout to 1/2 a second (Programs > Settings > Accessibility > Multipress timeout). Set homescreen timeout to "Never" (Programs > Settings > Homescreen > timeout). Go to www.developers.orange.com and remove the certification lock. You can now install any application or homescreen you like. Choosing a non-Orange Homescreen is also advisable, as these can slow the phone down considerably. Install activesync and get your contacts synced across to your phone. Run the Outlook contact reformatter to prefix all your phone numbers with "+44" so the phone can associate contacts with SMS. Any more problems let us know
