Guest FrankyG Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 I think I saw this on uk.telecom.mobile; Create a new message which contains the words which you would like T9 to remember, best done using the PC and transfer to SPV, or email to yourself and pick up using SPV.(then forward message, but save it to drafts) Anyway, I just tested by typing a few words into a new message, words which T9 never remembers. I then postponed the message and it's now stored in Drafts. Lo and behold, the words in the draft message are now in the T9 dictionary and any further messages T9 remembers the words for you to use! EDIT to the above; I just had to pull the battery and re-boot. Then tried to compose new message, T9 had forgotten the 'new' words. Went into draft messages, opened the message, closed it, and then went to compose new message, this time T9 worked. I dunno what to make of this, but it might help some ppl. FrankyG
Guest JoelRae Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Sounds promising, will definately give it a try 8) was having to pull the battery and reboot related to your T9 exploits?
Guest James Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 so now all we need is for somone to write an app that open this message when the phone starts! good work franky, this will help me alot as i use loads of non standard words
Guest FrankyG Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Sounds promising, will definately give it a try 8) was having to pull the battery and reboot related to your T9 exploits? Na, don't think so. I was re-booting just to test the T9 theory and it hung on the PIN entry screen. Anyway, I've re-booted a couple more times to make sure it wasn't related and it's ok. I wish I could remember all those words that T9 doesn't remember! :!: FrankyG
Guest midnight Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 we where discussing this in the MS newsgroup last week (maybe where you got it from), we also discovered that, although it doesnt actually fix the remembering of words, it is very handy for a quick restore method, try this instead......... Start a new email in outlook (on pc), add all the words you want adding to the t9 dictionary (very quick to type on pc compared to smartphone aswell) now save this message Close it, and then copy the message out of the drafts folder into the inbox folder Now sync this mail with the phone. select the message and select 'forward', but dont actually send it anywhere, instead select 'postpone'. and this will save it into the drafts folder. I think i then had to open this message again from the draft folder, but it then added all these words to the t9 dictionary, and you can sync up this mail whenever you wish, even after a hard reset.
Guest FrankyG Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 although it doesnt actually fix the remembering of words, it is very handy for a quick restore method, try this instead.........What do you mean it doesn't 'fix' the remembering of words? In that you have to manually open the draft message to kick start T9 to remember the words? Yes, a pest, but better than having to retype the words again! I like jlowap's idea about an app that opens the draft message (could be a specifically named message such as T9Words) and then closes it automatically, T9 ready to rock! Yeah Midnight, it was on the MS newsgroup that I read this, I was expecting you to pop in to this thread  FrankyG
Guest midnight Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 hehe, yeh, i was the one arguing it didnt work as originally planned (originally there was no mention of going back into the draft message, it was just mentioned that having this draft message was enough for the t9 to remember words) mine remembers words on normal reboot tho, so this is only of use to me after a hard reset, and thats a good thing
Guest fozzie Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 You absolute stars. This works a dream :D I don't even need to re-open the draft message after a soft reset. I've always wanted an editable custom T9 dictionary, and now I have it
Guest Rob.P Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Wouldn't it be better to make a program that makes a copy of the dictionary on the SD Card and will also enable you to restore from the backup copy?
Guest vijay555 Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Could this be done just by saving a text file containing all these words. Save it from pc to smartmedia. Then when you need to restore the words, you open it up in notepad etc? Does this principle work in the same way Midnight, or do you need to use pocket outlook specifically? V
Guest Martin@Home Posted June 17, 2003 Report Posted June 17, 2003 Fantastic !!! works a treat.... Wish I'd posted my "has anyone had any success" reply to the original post much sooner ! PS Has my avatar been removed by a mod or is it me messed up ?
Guest James Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Wouldn't it be better to make a program that makes a copy of the dictionary on the SD Card and will also enable you to restore from the backup copy? its a database with checksum's mate, hence if you make and changes to it that the system is not expecting then it will not work and you will only be able to type numbers. same if you copy a 'saved' copy over the top of the file that has been updated by the system...
Guest Brody Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 PS Has my avatar been removed by a mod or is it me messed up ? Looks fine from where i'm sitting! Ps. Dare i ask wot it is!!?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 It's a "Symian" product, isn't it?
Guest Rob.P Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 thanks jlowap, thought it was too easy
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 This is absolutely fab!! Now my phone can spell bwahaha *hop*! Works a treat it does! Even if I have to open the message everynow and then, it's still awesome! Great work...
Guest Pagemakers Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Another thing..... Add your postcode to the draft email and you don’t have to change t9 input methods when entering your postcode. Just type it as it appears. Also, enter your phone number like 44162522222222 in the draft email and when composing in regular T9 mode press and hold 0 to get + then just enter your phone number in regular t9 mode. No need to change to 123 mode.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Why would you need to put your phone number in an SMS?
Guest Pagemakers Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 I add my phone number, staff number, post code to EMAILS all the time.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 Ah, very true, hehe. Sorry ;p
Guest Martin@Home Posted June 18, 2003 Report Posted June 18, 2003 It's a "Symian" product, isn't it? Yup ! Looks crap that small though so will be changing.......
