Guest idavid Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 in the guardian online section today: New-look SPV Heading for the stores in the next few weeks is Orange's second crack at a Microsoft-powered smartphone - the SPV E100. The original SPV was criticised for its rather dated design and tricky user interface. Unsurprisingly, with the new SPV E100 Orange has attempted to tackle both issues. The phone now sports a contemporary silver finish and a slightly larger screen. Navigating round the phone's many features, including cut-down versions of Microsoft's Outlook Express and Internet Explorer, is also easier, courtesy of a small joystick under the screen and larger, more prominent keys. For fast data input, Orange is offering a fold away Qwerty keyboard, which is expected to retail for around £30-40. The phone also has a facility called Orange Backup, which lets users store personal data on the Orange network, so they can still access it even if they lose or damage the handset. The phone features MMS and is shipped with a snap-on camera. Initial retail price for the SPV E100 is expected to be in the region of £200.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 I'm not even going to begin to pick holes in the mistakes in that... Anyway, this has already been reported in the press release by Orange after last weeks trials hoax. Expect to see it in shops at the end of July
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Amongst other incorrect observations. NB: As with all MS SmartPhones the screen is exactly the same size and resolution (2.2" 176x220 pixel display). This is a non-negotiable critera set by MS to manufacturers of SmartPhone handsets.
Guest flotulopex Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 I got a E100 NM8TANAGER. It has also a new software (1.5.0.0). The joystick is great. The screen is not larger, just seem to be... I tried to SIM & Signature unlock the phone, but this doesn't work anymore. Will have to wait a while until some clever guys find the crack.
Guest flotulopex Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Actually, I tried to unlock it via PC. I also modified the "mxip_oem_10.provxml" file (signature unlock) but without success. I have no idea how to proceed "over air". If you know, tell me I'll try. br Flotul

Guest flotulopex Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 I'm afraid this works with the SPV "first generation" only. Too bad.
Guest flotulopex Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Well, I tried to signature unlock my brand new SPV E100 TANAGER this morning and... IT WORKS!!!!! Just make sure you've got an ongoing connection to internet while doing the process. flotul
