1 min 15 secs! How long does yours take?

Found out that my phone takes 1 minute 15 seconds to start up! Is this normal, is mine quick or slow?

If I've worked it out correctly, just by turning it on once a day wastes over 7 1/2 hours a year. Now at 80000 sold, thats 608000 manhours (and woman) lost! Blimey, I bet we don't loose that much to industrial action (I don't include the French in that  )

Of course, I could put that minute and a quarter to good use, or perhaps I should save it up and claim the overtime :D

I reckon that when the next update comes, the boot up time will be a lot quicker. I recently tried the Smart Philippino update, and although I didn't actually time it, it seemed to be about twice as fast!

My Orange SPV tooK:

12 Seconds to boot DOWN (no software running, ALL programs closed using task manager)

35 Seconds to boot UP (not receiving wireless signal yet)

45 Seconds to FULLY BOOT (phone started, reads "ATT Wireless"- ready to go)

I have a 512 MB SD card and all programs are installed on the card, nothing is installed on the phone besides a few sounds. So maybe that helps?

My SPV = 2fast 2furious 8) j/k

Its not the quickest phone in the world to boot up, but even my old nokia took a good chunk of time to switch on. I hardly think it is much of a problem.

yeah, i've got to admit, although it takes a Window 95 age to boot up, i just down shut it off. i mean, why would you?

I only reboot crashes and to install new apps, which isn't that often, meaning that i must power cycle about 4 times a month. that's about how often the tubes come on time in London.

The problem people is that once the other phones (like the Nokia) boot up, they're ready to be used.

The SPV isn't always.... From the moment you enter your PIN number, it can take anything up to 5 minutes (!) in the middle of a city centre for it to lock onto a signal. The nokia next to it (on the same network) will be quite happily chatting away by that time....

I've also had it say "Searching..." at times when it had a network signal (I know cause I was on the phone) and there were other times when it was showing the network operator when in fact the phone was dead...

In fact only the soft is from US, HTC is Taiwan. True bout cars though. But they have a different type of local market and demand apart from all the rest. Also as it was mentioned before, Mobiles/SMS as we know it is something different and the standards there are too, hence limited understanding of our market. Bla bla - there's a clear need to get out more..

HTC made the IPAQ and XDA. Surely their design credentials speak for themselves?

Slow boot up is the WinCE heritage. But until microsoft chooses to recode their OS from the ground up, i think it will always carry bloat. but if they did that, they would break a lot of the attraction (to me!) of the spv, in that it's fairly easy to migrate windows>WinCE.

But i reckon with .net, yeash, boot yesterday to use tomorrow morning. They'll do their usual and throw more CPU Mhz at it, but the XScale is only just NOW beginning to be streamlines for WinCE (ie PocketPC2003). And that chip's been in PDAs for ages.

We need a combination of more efficient processor usage, and more efficient OS code.

But i still love my SPV

Think mine takes around that to boot up, but add another minute onto that for me to continually keep pressing the "on" button, swear, release button, press this so-called "on" button again, wait a bit, swear again, press the you-must-be-joking "on" button quickly about 5 times, sigh, count to 10, press it one-last-time-just-for-luck and wahey! we have life!

This is why I try not to switch it off...

PS: Never have any problem switching on. A good push and a few seconds time - voila!! the lovely Orange Sunset...****

my little trick to get the damn thing to switch on is to push the button in for a tiny amount of time then let it out and hold it in again--works almost every time--anybody else have this>??

I find it takes about 20 secs of several pushings and holdings of my power button to get the phone booting. Perhaps it's something to do with the fact my SD card is 256Mb and usually about three quarters full.

It takes mine quite a bit of time, especially if I've had a few too many drinks!

EDIT: Ooops, sorry...I just read the title of the thread. Thought we were talking about something else!

btw: it might be a good idea to move 3rd party apps into folders on the start menu. parsing the icons etc takes some time, and this is alleviated by putting them in sub folders.

Also take into account any 3rd party apps booting on startup (eg caller id). Although, to be fair, it's just slow! Nothing really helps.

Cornaglian: you might want to try thinking of "Margaret Thatcher naked on a cold day".
