Guest ejoya Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 guys.. where can i buy an earphone converter? yung earphone ko kasi is 3.5mm eh yung sa SAP 2.5mm lang.. i tried search Raon.. but no luck
Guest terrible Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 I was able to get one at CONCORDE in SM Southmall. It only costs P 26.00. It is a 2.5mm to 3.5mm converter (2.5mm male to 3.5 mm female). The problem is: because it is intended for use with ordinary stereo headsets, it doesn't have the fourth section which is used by the microphone of the handsfree headset. You see, the mini plug used by the SAP has four sections (three black stripes between). The first three sections from the tip are used by the stereo speakers while the fourth section near the plastic capsule is used by the microphone. These sections are insulated from each other by the black stripes. The female jack in your phone, therefore, has a corresponding microphone signal pin that is supposed to touch the fourth section of the mini plug. Ergo, if you use an ordinary stereo mini plug with only three sections (two black stripes), the two pins inside the female jack of the phone will be touching the last and longest section and are, in fact, being shorted. I don't know if this could be dangerous for your phone. But I tried using it coupled with an ordinary stereo headset for a little while with my P800 which has the same plug configuration as the SAP and it worked except for the mistaken voice call signal when the mini plug was inserted the first time (the insertion mimicked the pressing of the speak button in the microphone part of the handsfree headset because it got shorted wih one of the speaker wires). Using it for a short while might be okay but I'm not sure what longterm use will do to either the speaker or microphone part of the phone. So, why don't you just buy the handsfree headset accessory for the SAP. It will only cost you P 450.00 and it will enable you to listen to your music and answer or call your contacts handsfree. With an ordinay stereo headphones (with the mini plug adapter of course), what you can do is listen to music. You can actually hear a call (your music will be suspended)but will not be able to answer it without unplugging the headphones first and using the phone in a normal manner.
Guest ejoya Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 thanks.. the quality of the handsfree earphones of the sap is not that good... that's why im looking for a converter... thanks to your tip.. now im stuck with my nokia handsfree
Guest wolf Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 i'm also interested in this one. i suggest if you buy a converter and you won't be needing the microphone. just cut a thin scotch or masking tape and put a tape to the long end so that it won't be touching the mic pin and it won't shorten out.
Guest dinoalbert Posted June 20, 2003 Report Posted June 20, 2003 but there's a possiblility that when you pull out the plug, the tape might get stuck or left inside the jack
Guest terrible Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 @wolf, I did just that but I couldn't find a tape thin enough to even make the plug get into the jack all the way so what I did was to file (as in using a mechanical file) file off the portion of the third section and filled it up with epoxy (I thing epoxy is a good insulator). To make the epoxied surface uniform, I used a very fine grade sand paper. So, after all that procedure, I tried using it again. This time I intermittently hear popping sound but the mistaken voice call signal disappeared (in fact I could see the "muted microphone" icon in the taskbar of the P800, which meant it was okay, that the mic pin did not get shorted with a speaker wire). I already have that modified mini plug converter but am still not using it as often as I could fearing that it might just foul up the handsfree jack of my quite expensive phone.
Guest wolf Posted June 21, 2003 Report Posted June 21, 2003 @terrible well that's good to hear that it worked. maybe you could make me one and i'll buy it from you. could you post a picture of the finished product maybe some of the pinoy forumers will be interested also. thanks!

Guest tiger Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 If you know something about splicing and soldering, you can use any earphone you like and just solder it inside the mic housing. If you cant, find an electronics repairman who can. I converted my handsfree doing these. I was able to combine my handsfree with my 3T php worth of inner earphone from Sony and the music was just so AMAZING! I can even answer any incoming calls. But of course you won't be able to use your earphone again with other devices other than for handsfree.
Guest ppcsurfr Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 I think PPCtechs also has one for the XDA which shold work flawlessly with the SAP. Mabuhay ~ Carlo
Guest slick_b_69 Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 FYI, the Smart Wireless Center at megamall currently has stereo earphones for the the SAV for P450. Get it while supplies last.
