WAP or Internet - Help!!!

my spv is properly set up to connect to 'The Internet' and 'WAP':

in Data connections, 'Internet connection' uses 'Orange GPRS''; 'WAP Connection' uses 'Orange CSD WAP'

when I choose 'Edit Connections', and then go into Orange GPRS, it's set to connect to 'The Internet' using the 'orangeinternet' access point; pri and sec dns are both set (158.43.192.1 & 158.43.128.1); Orange WAP is set to connect to The Internet via the 'orangewap' access point - nothing else is set. when I choose 'Edit Connections' and then go into 'Dial Up Connections', and then 'Orange CSD WAP', this is also set to connect to The Internet using the default phone numbers.

so far so good.

now for the IE connections - my understanding is that if 'Automatically detect settings' is selected, IE will choose whether to use the Internet Connection or the WAP Connection based on my target url. Is this correct?

I also understand/think (?), that if 'Automatically detect...' is unticked, the next selection - 'Select Network' - determines the method of connection - Internet or WAP. Is this correct?

My dilemma is that I now have 3months free WAP browsing - I want to know whether I can force IE to ALWAYS use the WAP connection by deselecting 'Automatic...' and selecting WAP Network.

If I can, can I then use WAP to navigate to a website normally reached via HTTP???

I imagined the answer to be NO, but listen to this: my IE history lists some perfectly mainstream websites - not mobile/WAP at all (I've done the sites myself) - with wsp:// protocols. Does this mean that I've managed to connect (for free) via WAP to the normal Internet?

I've bent Orange's ear about this at length, but haven't managed to get a focussed or sensible answer.

If this question betrays a fundamental misunderstanding of WAP, please tell me brutally and point me to a beginner's FAQ.

Also, the link to the 'softies website to the SPV User Guide is broken - given that I currently only have the paltry Orange version, does anyone have an url to the full guide that works?

All help gratefully receive - cheers

I would set my data connections to

Internet connection=Orange GPRS

WAP connection=Orange WAP.

I would use WAP over GPRS rather than WAP over a GSM connection.

If you set IE to 'Select Network=WAP Network' and de-tick auto settings then IE will only access WAP sites by using the WSP (Wireless Session Protocol). Even if you use http in the WAP address it automatically attempts wsp.

Unfortunately WAP software can only be used to view WML pages and not HTML pages.

If you want to know about WAP technical stuff try here

Look under protocols for WSP.

by which you mean:

in Data Connections, instead of setting 'WAP Connection' to 'Orange CSD WAP', set it to 'Orange GPRS'?

(so I still get free WAP browsing but over a GPRS connection).

Thanks for your reply
