After causing some confusion in Dixons & Sony shop today by turning off all their tv's with my Nokia3650  my fiancee would like to have something similier for her Orange SPV. Are there any ir remote apps for the SPV :?:

It *may* be possible, we don't know.

If it is possible it wouldn't be easy, because there is no standard API for sending CIR signals via the IR port, meaning it would take some very clever programing to get around that I think.

The other problem is we are still unsure how powerful the SPV's IR diode is. If it can only reach 20cm then it is not much good, (although I suppose it would eb possible to replace it with a higher power IR Diode).

microsoft said (at spv launch training) 1 metre with a 30 degree allowence.

that's good enough i reckon! even if it was 20cm I wouldn't mind as long as my mind knew the software is there

1m is terrible, my tv is like, 4-5 meters away, 1meter is pretty useless, and practically within reaching distance.

but yeh, this has been discussed in great detail before

Although IrDA has a range of a metre, you might find that if someone was able to figure out CIR for SPV, it may have a longer range. It's a much slower protocol I believe, so it should give you a little extra distance.

But the CIR problem has still to be cracked.
