Guest ArtyCarl Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 It seems that I am forever changing mobiles in the search for the one device that will do it all. I've struggled with Psions, and Pocket Pc's like Cassiopeia's and Toshiba's all with a mobile then got a Mondo and a Nokia 9210 both of which you could call 'brickish'...I even bought one of those Pogo handhelds which seems to have been laid to rest. The upshot of all this chopping and changing has been 3 contracts running at once...forever selling off the old phones on Loot at ridiculous cut-down prices, e-mail accounts everywhere and a wife who's eyes roll back into her head everytime she spots me browsing a mobile mag in Smiths. Anyone else had a similar path to the SVP (which I hope to pick up this week)
Guest nobznss Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 Definately. I've gone through so many mobiles since I got my first. About 10 to be exact. I'm now an SPV owner and will never look back. This has got to be the best phone on earth right now. But the new question... should I spring and get a Mitac, or just stick with my good ol' SPV? Decisions, decisions.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 22, 2003 Report Posted June 22, 2003 Yep definately, on both the phone and PDA front: 5146, 7110 (could have been so great), 6210, T39, T68, T68i and finally SPV. Oregon Osaris (Revo clone), Ipaq (still miss it - got stolen grrrr), Clie (crap, couldn't get my head round Palm) and finally SPV. Sure the SPV ain't a mini-phone like the T68i, sure its a bit clunky but hey, I have never been so organised and never had so many people say to me 'your phone can do THAT?!?'
Guest ArtyCarl Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Yes I nearly forgot...a Revo+ and a Sony Clie were in there too for a short time. I went to Paris twice last year with my trusty IBook and mobile just to send and receive a few emails and browse the odd web page....it ended up costing me over £100 in calls and was just another bag full of stuff to lug with me. My accountant said to me recently...'Are you sure all these things are absolutely necessary' As a little sidenote in the course of my quest for a suitable device I have had to return about half the phones and pdas's for one reason or other and have put up with plenty of bugs...so i'm not scared.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 so i'm not scared. To paraphrase Yoda "heh, you will be!" Nah, the SPV is a great convergence device, but be sure to get all the essentials done ASAP before tinkering (i.e. update, decert, Smart Explorer and Task Manager).
Guest ArtyCarl Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Yes...its weird...i'm expecting my phone Tuesday or Wednesday but I have already printed off about 40 pages of useful hints gleaned from this forum and the links kindly provided. At this rate it'll take another month to get it all perfectly balanced before it gets used.
Guest vijay555 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 ArtyCarl - just make sure you unlock. can't believe people aren't unlocking. Literally, you're "unlocking" the potential of the phone. Man, if i had friends, i might send messages. but now i've got xRick, pacman, invades, smartexplorer and the like, yeash, who needs friends anymore? I've been thru a few phones, but still have to say that sony z7 implementation of t9, with scrollwheel and a live list of possible word endings is significantly better than anything else i've used. Still, spv is the best "phone" i've used. lots of fun to be had, tinkering and tooling, using and abusing it thru programming etc.i think it's only this generation of phones that has the clout to be able to provide usable "fun" in a vibrating device only 6 inches long  Mitac's got more cpu clout and juicer camera etc, but still, think i'd rather wait for an implementation of intel's design...can't stand clamshells, and i think it's much sexier.
