Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 You heard it here first! Orange have confirmed to MoDaCo SmartPhone that the SPV E-100, also known as the HTC Tanager, will be launched in the UK on Monday 7th July 2003. The release date is expected to be announced officially by Orange tomorrow (24th June). Pricing is yet to be announced, although with the current policies of networks to reduce subsidies on handsets, a price similar to the SPV launch price of ~£200 UK pounds seems possible. P
Guest dk1210 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Can you tell me where can I see a picture of this phone?
Guest vijay555 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Check out coolsmartphone for pics. Try the "old website" and look for "information about the spv". or just type tanager into google! V
Guest smartphone-web.com Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 an ad from switzerlandSPVE100.gif
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 or just type tanager into google! V LOL  Especially if you want to go birdwatching in Peru :!:
Guest JoelRae Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Does the tanager camera actually attach in the opposite direction to the spv camera, or is the advert misleading billions of ... erm ... Swiss people?
Guest midnight Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 i dont think the back of the camera would look as exciting, and it doesnt actually show it attached
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Does the tanager camera actually attach in the opposite direction to the spv camera, or is the advert misleading billions of ... erm ... Swiss people? No, it attaches exactly the same as on the SPV :?
Guest davidhorn Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Oops! Did I just drop my phone? Clumsy me.
Guest jhew Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 Ohhh great! S'pose this means I'm gonna have to go thru the agony of trying to decide whether to stick with my 1st gen spv, or get a swanky new Tanager. Hate decisions like that, cos ya know what'll happen.....The same thoughts will keep repeating in my head: 'Mmmm tanager...NO you cant afford it at the moment....But it's new and shiny....No it's expensive.....Mmmm tananger....No...' add infinitum. Something I think every bloke can relate too, especially the shiny part! Ho hum.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 I had the same deliberation when buying my SPV last month, knowing full well that this was on the way. My logic was that the XScale powered Smartphones will be with us in December and Orange allow you to upgrade after 6 months.
Guest gears1 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 For more piccies go to ... Tanager Review 1 ......and....... Tanager Review 2 Oh, and check out this MSMobiles.com comparison for more.
Guest Gorskar Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 *wipes away drool* Oh well, I cant afford to buy one within my contract so I guess I'll just have to put up with my lowly SPV until January (when I can get a nice shiny new SP2003 phone hopefully - like the ASUS! )
Guest rich23 Posted June 23, 2003 Report Posted June 23, 2003 So they are still going with the rubbish easy to lose clip on style of camera (i still havent found mine)
Guest nickcornaglia Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I guess that means the price of second hand tanagers will remain in the $600+ range for awhile. Glad I just bought my replacement SPV for $350. I wish I had the tanager...but it's a matter of $300 more in my position. The looks and the screen are just not worth it. Boooo Hooooo! (That is...if the guy I just bought the SPV doesn't rip me off and not send it. But I'm thinking good thoughts!)
Guest ArtyCarl Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I thought it must be coming soon...i've tried to order the original yesterday on upgrade from www.orange.co.uk and they say they are out of stock, as does www.carphonewarehouse.co.uk.
Guest Bhoppy Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Is the Tanager going to replce the SPV or is it a new phone altogether
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I think that was the intention, but given the amount of SPVs Orange still have in stock I imagine they will run them side-by-side (admittedly with the Tanager at a premium) until stocks have gone.
Guest Bhoppy Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I was wondering because I need to send mine back (It's faulty) and thought I might get a Tanager as a replacement.
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003  only you and nine-tenths of the world with a SPV and Orange care!
Guest gears1 Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Where's the announcement ? The "thing" yesterday mentioned it in passing, but they missed a great opportunity to announce it..
Guest xanadu Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 As far as I know, Orange UK have not made any anouncement regarding a new SPV E-100. You can't believe everything you read on here. !!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Orange have made an announcement to me. I only post news that I know to be true  P
Guest wirefree90 Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 It was also announced at the Orange analysts presentation at the beginning of the week.
Guest pierre Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 I got the new SPVE100 since 1 week, and till now, the only differences lie in the external design & concept: joystick, larger keyboard, thicker screen that brings better contrasts and brightness, and the look. No other difference I could notice. I guess the old SPV works the same with the 1.50 update... One (bad) change for me though: I can't connect properly to Internet with the new model. I have to reboot to be able to open a page or 2, and soon it'll again be stuck (Dialling...) Any1 any clue?
