I sounds like the WAP promotion for PAYG might only be free for access to the Orange WAP homesite (and for all services contained within). I expect that you'll still have to pay for all other WAP and internet usage via GPRS. CS should be able to confirm this.

Note sure where its going wrong :?

I would get the Internet/WAP connectiions over GPRS working for the phone first and then add the option of through connection to the PC

Try this

Settings for GPRS WEB

Description: Orange GPRS

The Internet, payginternet

Orange WAP proxy settings.

Descreition: Orange WAP proxy

The Internet ,WAP network, 192.168.71.35, WAP

Settings for GPRS WAP.

Description: Orange WAP

Connects to: The Internet, paygwap

Settings for GSM dialup

Connects to: The Internet

Country code: 44

Dialling code: 7973

Phone number: 100500

Username: Orange (note uppper and lower case)

Password: Multimedia (note upper and lower case)

Domain: (blank)

Make the following data connections

Internet connection=Orange GPRS

WAP connection = Orange WAP

Check connections (use menu-refresh to re-load page if needed)

5 Int.Explorer - de-tick 'auto' and make Select network=The Internet.

6 Successfully access http://www.google.com/wml site and use properties to comfirm Type=WML and protocol=HTTP

7 Int.Explorer- de-tick 'auto' and make Select network=WAP Network

8 Successfully access wsp://www.google.com/wml site and use properties to comfirm Type=WML and protocol=WSP

9 Int.Explorer - tick 'auto detect settings' to allow either protocol to be used automatically.

I seem to have a similar problem - GRPS Internet works fine (but costs money), CSD WAP works fine (is free, but slow), but GPRS WAP does not work (and should be free). When set to use GPRS WAP, PIE just hangs when 'Dialing...'.

Any ideas? CSD is too slow for me :s

What do you mean by set GPRS to WAP ?

Have you created the WAP GRPS connection and WAP proxy settings ?

Have you got 'auto detect settings' ticked in Internet explorer ?

What WAP address are you to connect to ?

Also I assume your Orange.

You need a WAP browser to view WML pages. If you were using the Internet browser on the PC then you will only be able to view HTML pages.

also i cannot find the gsm dialup settings on the phone just orange CSD wap

Orange CSD wap is a GSM dialup for the WAP service.

These settings for WAP access should definately work.

Make 'WAP connection=Orange WAP or Orange CSD' in data connection.

Make 'Select Network=WAP Network' and untick 'auto detect settings'

Access wsp://orange.multimedia from the SPV internet explorer.

'set to use GPRS WAP' - I set PIE to connect through 'WAP network', with 'WAP connection' set to 'GPRS WAP'.

Have you created the WAP GRPS connection and WAP proxy settings ?

My settings were exactly as in your post, except my proxy had a port number on the end, although it doesn't seem to make much difference.

Have you got 'auto detect settings' ticked in Internet explorer ?
No, I wanted to force to to connect though WAP network (as it is free)

What WAP address are you to connect to ?

Can't remember the address, but it is the O one in the favorites.

Also I assume your Orange.

Yes

Thanks for your time with this :D

The original O favourites are smartphone specific and are not WAP sites. You will need to create a new favourite with address wsp://orange.multimedia

Since we are on about free WAP, try this for yahoo WAP messenger

(time to buy a keyboard I think)

Untick 'auto detect settings' and make 'Select Network=WAP Network'.

Install WebWapSelect V1.1 and change type to WAP (mode WAP:Nokia 7650).

Reset Phone.

Goto Address wsp://wap.yahoo.com

Enter country and then messenger.

I think it gives the SPV the identity of another WAP device and therefore it allows greater compatability with some WAP sites.

That is the favorite I was referring to.

Andy.

If you are adding the port number to your proxy settings then I assume you have 192.168.71.35:9201. Port 9203 gets stuck in dialling.

and if You have the following

'Auto detect' unticked and WAP network selected in IE.

WAP 'Network: Orange WAP' in data connections

Orange WAP with APN paygwap and points to 'The Internet'.

(I assume you are PAYG).

and if you are using wsp:// in the address

It should work :?

Cheers, martin! ;)

It seems that it was that port that was the problem. Which is weird as I had been using settings send to me by Orange Support :s. Anyway, sorted now :)
