Active Sync Connection Probs: Please help!

Hi...

Sorry if I'm going against the grain in creating a new topic here, but I've searched and searched and still can't find any answers!

Basically - I'm having a nightmare with ActiveSync - All I get is the "connecting" icon whirring away, but no connection actually being made. I've tried re-starting my phone and PC, upgrading from ActiveSync 3.6 to 3.7 and now am at a bit of a loss! :x

My connection settings in ActiveSync all seem to be OK, but as the phone won't connect I can't really check anything else. It is driving me potty!

Any thoughts, help, abuse - all appreciated!

I get activesync all hanging and dying like this normally the first time I connect it. I don't know why. But then if I don't switch off or reboot anything and just unplug the phone, wait a few seconds and plug it back in it connects fine.

No - when I reinstall ActiveSync I'm now getting a message that says "device not detected" - even though the cradle is well and truly plugged into the usb port on the back of my pc!

I am about to give up, I think

Try this guide:

http://www.cewindows.net/faqs/t-shootactiv...0Proxy%20Issues

In short, make sure you have disabled your firewall/anti-virus etc.

had the very same problem myself over the weekend.

Temporarily disabling Zone Alarm solved it.

Tip:

Once the phone is 'detected', you may re-enable your firewall.

However, if you have set ActiveSync to 'sync' every XX mins, it will likely lose it again.

Good luck.

That's a pretty comprehensive guide there!

Catherine, this sort of thing used to happen all the time with my Ipaq. It's worth:

1. The integrity of the USB socket at the back of your PC - do other USB devices work OK using the port?

2. Checking and removing any hubs or USB devices that share the connection. Hubs are a bast**d!

3. Can you install ActiveSync on a friends PC and see if it works? If still no luck, then the phone is at fault - take a large hammer and...

Keep smiling!

A-ha! Finally cracked it - thanks go out to h00pyfr00d; who posted this:

The nature of USB is that Windows will always try and install the device and assume it has the correct drivers. If Active Sync isn't installed when this happens, then the drivers aren't present and Windows will install an unknown device. Uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync won't do anything because the device is resedent in the system now.

The quickest way to remove the device from the system is to go into Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device manager, open up the Windows CE USB group and delete the HTC USB sync device (The device HAS to be plugged into the PC otherwise this device won't be listed). Once this has happened, reinstall ActiveSync and reboot....then during the bootup, Windows should find your device, plus driver and install it. If it doesn't find the phone, go back into device manager, right click the USB group and selec Scan for Hardware Changes and this should do it.

So! Only took me over a day to get working :) Thanks everyone for all your help
