Guest James Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Just seen a new orange service.... would post this in News but i cant (is it news? or even new?).... Memory Mate Never again will losing your Orange phone mean losing all your numbers. Orange Memory Mate is an easy way to back up the information stored on your SIM Card. It is also a quick way to transfer your numbers if you're upgrading your Orange phone or moving to Orange from another network. how it works The Memory Mate card can store up to 250 names and numbers from your SIM address book, and up to 10 text messages. You can choose to save all the information from your SIM Card, or pick and choose which numbers and messages you want to back up. Memory Mate also automatically adds international dialling codes to your numbers making it easy for you to call home, wherever you are. where to get your Memory Mate Orange Memory Mate is available for just £2.99 at Orange shops. Simply take your Orange phone into your nearest Orange shop™ where you can back up the numbers and text messages onto a Memory Mate card i assume this is for non SPV users! http://www.orange.co.uk/services/memory_mate.html
Guest dmmh Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 nice, but contacts can be uploaded to the Orange servers with a program available on their site anyways. at least, for Dutch customers that is. it works via the internet and thus costs no money at all. Contacts are the most important thing to me  Its called Synchro-Outlook, version 1.02 :D
Guest James Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Yes and we have Orange Backup on the SPV. but i now assume it for non SPV customers....... there is also an over-the-air sync program as seen on msmobiles comming soon...
Guest crafty Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 I think that the memory mate service has been available for some time. They definately tried to get me to buy it when i went into an O shop to play with the phone before buying. Sounds strange trying to get you to buy a service to back up your contacts when one of the main selling points of the phone is it's ability to back up data!
Guest Firaas Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Yes and we have Orange Backup on the SPV. but i now assume it for non SPV customers....... there is also an over-the-air sync program as seen on msmobiles comming soon... It's possible to sync over-the-air at the moment using Exchange Server or Exchange Activesync...
Guest broeren79 Posted June 24, 2003 Report Posted June 24, 2003 Yes and we have Orange Backup on the SPV. but i now assume it for non SPV customers....... there is also an over-the-air sync program as seen on msmobiles comming soon... it's called the same here in holland too.....
Guest dmmh Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 yeah, but I backup via air once a week, and once a day via my computer, saves me from using too much data hence keeps my bill low
Guest Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 I thought that the _OTA backup used a different GPRS access point and was therfore not metered / charged. I could be wrong though!
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 For £20ish you can get a gadget half the size of a fag packet - small keyboard and LCD panel. You insert your SIM, and it backs up the numbers to an EPROM (you can then edit the "image" file using the tiny keyboard). Or there's the "chippy"USB SIM reader for your PC. Obvious disadvantage being the price, advantage being that you can use it to copy your phone book from one SIM to another. One from Scancom.co.uk, the other from Morgans
Guest glynton Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 I don't know about anyone else, but i've not had contacts on my SIM since i had my 7110 when it first came out. From then on, all Data on my SIM could be kept on the phone and backed up easily to an address book on my computer! Glyn
