My apologies if this is redundant! If there is a thread that will answer my questions Please provide the link, Thanks to all in Advance.

I've just received my SPV Orange today, and am planning :?: to activate the phone via T-Mobile in Illinois and have a few questions before I go:

Will the phone automatically detect the 1900mhz band when activated or do I need to adjust the settings for it to work correctly?

Is the GSM and GPRS the same thing, or does it use one or the other? Which will T-Mobile use if the latter is true?

I have and will have many more questions i'm sure but I better stop there just in case this the incorrect index for these types of questions

Welcome to the site,

All questions are welcome here, as they get more advanced, pop them in the appropriate areas... If they get moved back here, they are still newbie questions!!

You will most likely have to go into settings/telephony and change the band there (i'm sure someone will give a more accurate answer).

GSM is used for voice calls (and some data/fax stuff). GPRS is an always 'on' way to exchange data. (ie the phone is always connected to gprs, but you only pay (and check the costs!) for the actualy amount of data you send AND recieve.

TMobile will use GSM and I think in most areas supports GPRS. but you may have to get them to 'activate it' on your account.

Thank you, I have just activated the SPV via T-Mobile but the Radio is "OFF", how do I switch it to "ON", Also I can't get on the internet as of yet, maybe the activation hasn't fully set but are there other settings I should be aware of.

My Telephony settings is: GSM at the moment.

Thank you Again!

Okay let a fellow American do some explaining as it's a little different here than in the UK. My phone is on T-Mobile so you can trust me. If your phone is saying radio off just press your power quickly (don't hold it as it will turn your phone off) and then make sure that "radio off" shows in the list (should be number 4). More than likely once your radio is on you'll get a message on your home screen saying that you network is denied. This is because under the telephony settings it needs to be on PCS band. Not sure why that is, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do. That setting would be under "telephony --> band selection." After you do that things should be solved. Also for GRPS do a search on this website for GRPS settings. There's a thread somewhere around here that has all the settings all entered. Ask again if you have any questions, or PM me and I'll try and talk to you through it.

Thanks,

ssmithri, I sent a PM to you to answer your question, let me know if you have any other questions, i'll do the best i can. There are others on this forum that are incredibly helpful and have much more experience w/ the SPV than I.

Good Luck, Pete
