Sorry - I can't find the FAQ, and could do with some answers to basic q's:

1) Decertifying the phone means allowing applications that are not certified to be installed. Right?

2) Decertifying the phone has no affect whatsoever on it's function as a simple phone, or on the connection of the phone to the (Orange in this case) network. Correct?

3) Unlocking the SIM lets me use the phone freely with other SIMs - whatever their network/tariff/contract....Right?

4) After the uk update has been applied, my main DATA CONNECTIONS page should have the following two settings (to allow me a decent Internet/WAP experience):

Internet Connection is set to: Orange GPRS; WAP Connection is set to: Orange GPRS

These settings let me browse internet & wap thru' gprs - correct?

5) IE Connection settings: if I tick Automatically Detect ...., then IE should use Internet (HTTP) or WAP (WSP) protocols as appropriate to my target site. If the option is NOT ticked, then I am limited to either the internet or to wap depending on the setting of 'Select Network'. Is that correct??

Btw, I'm pretty sure that my detailed connection settings are correct according to various posts around this site.

6) Connections via GPRS are made via Orange using a generic username/password combo that I shouldn't need to touch. either that or no user/password is required. I say this because the settings wizard i've seen asks for my ISP details - why would I want to set up an alternate ISP on the SPV please? Or am I mired in misunderstanding (expect so)?

I know this is a &^%*) long post, with many newbie q's, but if anyone fancies deigning to answer any of the points I'd be ultra-grateful.

I've had the spv just over a week, and find:

a) massive potential (using a telnet client to manage a unix box by phone: WOW

 it's good for fiddlers

c) it's not very responsive

d) the lack of decent official user documentation in the box or online makes getting started difficult

e) it takes a little getting used to - this, of course, is a good thing, in terms of user/habit reinforcement

thanks

mark

I'm using the phone on 02, so some answers for your questions are :

1) Right

2) Correct

3) Right

4) No idea cos I'm using the phone on 02 with their settings - which is possible due to 3) above.

5) No idea - haven't tried this cos I can't think of a time where you wouldn't want IE set to "Auto Detect"

6) No idea - cos I don't use Orange.

Sorry about 4) 5) and 6) :?
