I turned my phone off last night, turned it back on today and it has reset itself - back to the camper screen, default ringtones and homepage. Contacts and programs are still there but the phone has locked itself so none of the uncerted software works!!!. There are no entries in the remove programs option. Whats happening

What should I do

this has been reported alot mate. it has happed to me once..... its a self heard reset, and can happen when the phone/registery becomes corrupt.

You need to start again

if you need to unlock your phone again just see Orange OTA .

if you have used orange backup then you may be able to salvage some data from that...

with respect to the remove programs not being there... just install them again.

I've heard this problem before.... can't help you though ...

(sorry if that was a pointless reply ...)

Also - it may be worth doing a full hard reset (the auto one that the phone does is a bit half hearted - afaik it only re-sets the registry).

As jlowap said, you will have to re-install programs anyway (because the registry has been reset), so you may as well do the whole thing from scratch to ensure that it's a fully clean install.

I have finally restored the phone to its pre-reset position. Its taken ages, I had to lock the phone, unlock it, reset email settings, get the GPRS working again, recert some programs, Its been a real pain. A locked SPV is hopeless when you become used to the potential of the unlocked version. The phone has really come alive since Orange allowed an easy way of unlocking it. I have not really messed about with the phone too much, and yet it still reset itself. How do I stop it happening again? Does this mean that turning the phone off at night to preserve the battery is out of the question? Its the first time I have had a problem with the phone since getting it in Dec 2002.

I 've regularly turned it off at night, it seems to free up the memory and prevent the phone from crashing, until now. I did not do a hard reset, although in retrospect this would have been the ideal time to do so. ( I read the previous post after the phone had been restored) The only thing that I have done just before the phone reset itself was to load Activesync onto my main PC and syncronise on that computer, rather than my usual laptop. But I'm sure that the is just coincidental, surely syncing with another PC will not cause it to reset. In fact the phone was fine for at least 4 hours after, until it was switch off, that night and turned back on the next day.

The other strange thing is that after restoring the phone, my laptop did not recognise the phone on syncronising, It saw it as another smartphone, as if it changed its identity. Similarly, I have had to get a new key for PocketTv. I cant really understand what has happened, but more importantly, I dont want it to happen again. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

It' gets quicker with practice :)

Playing with the registry can cause this, but also something simple like dodgy XML can do it as well.

No but saying that I never turn mine off and have never had this problem.

even though I've done a few hard resets ;)

After a reset you will always need to get new registration keys as that info has been wiped, also upgrading some apps require this as well :D

As for Activsync it's the same with apps but it's easier to sort out.

With the phone out of the cradle open Activsync, go to FileDelete Partnership

and remove the entries you find there. Now when you plug the phone

back in it will create just one Partnership.

skanna,

It has happened to me a couple of times.

To save a LOT of time copy the start menu and favourites menu from the ipsm folder on your spv onto your PC.

You can then just copy these folders back to the spv if it resets again. :)

davy.

Isnt that going to wear out the battery twice as quick? (cause you leave it on at night) :? - seems like an expensive way to avoid accidental resets.

Mine just sits in the cradle at night! Hardly ever turn it off - and I've only experienced it resetting itself once (after a reboot)!

The few times I do turn it off now, I'm a freaking nerve wreck!!!
