Is anyone else getting calls from an unknown number where it just beeps and hangs up as soon as you answer it?

It doesn't seem to be a person 'cos it hangs up immediately. Both me with my SPV and my mate with a Nokia have been getting them almost everyday for the last couple of months.

If I was having a guess I would say that it is coming from a sales company with an auto-dialler. The way a dialler works is it phones several numbers at once, when they are answered it looks to see if a salesman/woman is free and will connect you to the call. If all the salesforce are on a call it will hang up. Nothing suspicious but VERY VERY annoying.

AND... unless they speak to you and you can tell them you don't want to buy what they are selling you stay on there list and they keep calling you!!!

Aaagh - I hate those damn telemarketers! I had them calling every few days before Christmas, and it was really p***ing me off, so I decided to record a long and slightly (OK, very) sarcastic answerphone message in the voice of John Peel (as you do). I made it non offensive to try and annoy them even more, although it's a pity that Orange only let you record a maximum of one minute, but never mind, it kept 'em waiting  Only problem was then the little bu**ers listened to it, and some left a message, ranging from "good one mate", to lauging, to "I think you should f*ck off" (nice).

Why anyone would buy someting from a cold caller is beyond me however...
