Guest pyke Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 i know that this is an essential tool for the spv but i dont know how it works and what it can do. can somebody explain to me in layman's term what the registry editor is for?please? thanks much!
Guest JoelRae Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 Hmmm ... well, as far as I understand, the registry is a big ol' database where apps can store stuff that they want to remember even when they're not running. It is structured like a file system, so a program will make its own folder when it is installed, and in that folder there will be "keys" with "values". So for example, somewhere the call history app has a folder containing a key called "maxitems" (or something like that), the value of which is "50". Somewhere in the call history app there's a bit that says "store value of maxitems key as x" and then a bit that says "if number of items is greater than x then delete oldest item". This means that if you use a registry editor (which is just like windows explorer, but shows keys and values instead of files) and find that "maxitems" key you can change how many items are stored in your call history. Whoopee  Seriously though, you can see how being able to change little details will enable you to customise lots more about your phone 8) But beware!! So much is dependant on the registry that I guess screwing it up is the easiest route to a hard reset :? Hope that helps, I'm sure others will have their own ways of explaining it!! Joel
Guest madu Posted June 25, 2003 Report Posted June 25, 2003 As said... An OS database It allows you to change parameters for OS and applications. Basiacally it is a structured control board with all the tumblers, switches and settings.
