answerphone problem (again!)

Hi,

I've managed to get my answerphone icon to appear, but when i've deleted the message the icon is still there. Any thoughts?

Also, I've changed call forwarding so that there isn't a tick in any of the boxes (basically to disable my answerphone) but when I review the settings there is a tick in the box again. How can I disable the answerphone?

Thanks

When you delete the message you have to wait for acknowledgement first then wait a few second before

hanging up.

To remove the icon you can either ask Orange to do it or you can leave yourself another message and do

the above suggestion.

As for disabling the answerphone I'm not sure offhand as I've never had to

The stuck answerphone problem occurs on many handsets, basically either the network doesn't send the "clear" command for the icon or your phone didn't receive it.

To clear it either phone Orange CS and ask them to do it (which might mean waiting on hold for ages) or phone yourself, leave a message, then phone answer phone, listen to yourself, delete message and that should do it. Sometimes you have to remain on the call to answer-phone and wait for the icon to disappear before hanging up.

Call forwarding: AFAIK most if not all UK networks now ignore any settings on the handset and will always use voicemail for unanswered calls, that’s why when you check them again the network has reset them to the default (or only!) option.

Previously the networks got complaints from people mistakenly cancelling their voicemail and then complaining that they weren't getting messages. Either that or the networks want to make more money from us in voicemail call charges!

[EDIT]

Someone beat me to it again!

Don't forget calling Orange is free so you could always get them to do the hard work :)

1. You can call Orange and TELL (not ask) them to switch it off altogether.

2. If you listen to msg then delete it. Then listen to the options again and select listen to deleted msgs and then hit 3 as soon as it starts playing it to delete again. This sorts it.

Alternatively, you can change your voicemail to play back an extended absence message. Unlike the normal answerphone message, with the EA message you get the option to not allow your caller to leave a message....

Mark,

How do I do that then?!

Thanks

To set an extended absence greeting, call voicemail and select 3-1-4. You'll be asked to choose whether you want callers to leave a message, and then asked to record your message.

Cheers, Mark.
