Guest Simon Desser Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 The RIAA want to try and sue individual people who download and share large amounts of mp3's  See here and also here Obviously, I'm not woried for myself, 'cos I've never tried downloading music :) , but some of you out there might have  It's gone way too far (IMHO) for them to try and stop it now :?: By the way, the British record industry have said they want to try a "softer approach" ;)
Guest Rob.P Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 The RIAA is just an old boy network that wants to keep it's huge profits. Hooray for the British Record Industry, prehaps they will realise they can't beat this type of technology, so embrace it and change the distribution model.
Guest Gorskar Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 The BPI perhaps realises that file swappers are also its customers, (and dont give me that rubbish that anyone who swaps a file never buys music) so suing them isn't the best customer relations step. The RIAA is just a money mad lunatic assylum. Perhaps if they stopped to think for a while... Of course I personally would never dream of swapping a copyright file and depriving the Music Industry of its hard earned fat profits. (I tend to just not buy or listen to the music instead - most of its rubbish nowadays anyway)
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 The BPI perhaps realises that file swappers are also its customers Exactly! If I were ever to download mp3's (of course I would never do such a thing) it would be to allow myself to sample new bands/albums so that I could decide if I should fork out £12 on the album.
Guest Lojt Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 The danish group APG (Anti pirate group) sendt alot of bills out last year to users who had shared illegal music/movie files on peer to peer networks (some dodgy place etc) for large amounts, treathning with lawsuits if they didn't pay... edit: why am i not allowed to write some dodgy place? It changes it to armadillo automaticly  EDIT: Because you cannot, which means you shouldn't try and be clever about typing it up so it shows up :)
Guest Rob.P Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 (I tend to just not buy or listen to the music instead - most of its rubbish nowadays anyway) So true.
Guest madu Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 There's anti-armadillo software in development. I personally don't believe it will help much, but it's not my shout... Some armadillos are open-sourse as well.
Guest ClintEastman Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 I think they might have a problem.. More people in the states use P2P software than voted for Bush.... :)
