Guest Swift_gti Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Hi Guys, I'm fairly new to this Smart phone malarky, so bear with me :) I have seen on smartphone news sites that SP2003 is coming, am I right in thinking that SP2003 is the version of the Operating System that is on the phone, and that the SPV currently uses SP2002 ? If so, when SP2003 is released will there be an update or anything so that the SPV can use SP2003 to add new features, and hopefully speed it up a little ?? Thanks
Guest Gorskar Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 Hey there, welcome to the site! Smartphone 2003 (or whatever they decide to call it) is coming, but when we actually see a phone with it is anyones guess. (Maybe around about December?) For now we have the SPV e100 coming out on 7th July It has been stated that it is possible to upgrade it to SP2003, but whether this actually happens or not is down to Orange.
Guest Deemon Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 So that means we shall prbably get the Sp2003 update late 2004
Guest spacemonkey Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 OK, this post is all speculation, but... SP2003 will I think be out in the second half of this year. As to whether the current hardware is upgrade to 2003? I think it will be. It has been left up to the individual hardware vendors, but by the time sp2003 is out there will probably still only be 3 devices released under 2002 which will be SPV, Tanager/E100 and Mitac Mio. The OS upgrade should be a relatively easy upgrade and would provide an amount of bug fixes, also I would expect that microsoft will be keen to push for these devices to be upgraded to get a user base out there for sp2003. The least likely really is poor old SPV. I would think that Tanager and Mitac Mio would definitely be upgraded. Just my opinions tho... I don't work for anyone or know anything.
Guest midnight Posted June 26, 2003 Report Posted June 26, 2003 The least likely really is poor old SPV. I would think that Tanager and Mitac Mio would definitely be upgraded. dont forget, except for a redesigned case, transflective display and the joystick/joypad, the tanager is identical to the SPV, no extra ram or nothin, so if it works for the tanager, it'll work for the spv (indeed, the ram requirements of all Smartphones is identical as far as i know, so that will not be an issue contrary to what some people have reported)
Guest Myke Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 2003 is also soppose to have bluetooth integrated... so enless youre planning on buying a bluetooth sd card, some features might only be available on new smartphone devices shipped with 03
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 16MB RAM/32MB ROM is a MS criteria for SmartPhone handsets, don't expect to see upgrades to this in ~any~ handsets. Better CPU's are what you want to look out for :)
