Guest awarner [MVP] Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Interesting they are giving away Smart Explorer when you buy a theme. Also some of those for sale are available in the customisation section, be it a long time ago, ie Spiderman and monsters inc.

Guest Lojt Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Yeah, saw them earlier... isn't it illegal cause of copyright anyway?
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Yeah, saw them earlier... isn't it illegal cause of copyright anyway? Yeah, I would have thought so, but I didn't want to say anything
Guest madu Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Apparently up to 30 seconds of the tune is not copyrighted. Dunno what happens when it is a commercial product though... But what about that massive market for Brick's ringtones?? I know it is not the original, but it is the same autho/rights
Guest morpheus2702 Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Hey if people are stupid enough to pay for ringtones, then good luck to them!
Guest madu Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Hey if people are stupid enough to pay for ringtones, then good luck to them! True.
Guest XGEOX Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 lol - one of the reasons i bought the spv was cause i wouldnt have to pay for ringtones, themes, games etc... if 30 seconds of music isnt coverevd by copyright, how can these people justify selling ringtones which we could make ourselves for free legally? :)
Guest midnight Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 30 secs of music is covered by copyright, the only way that 30 seconds is considered 'fair-use' is if it is used for purposes such as criticism, comment, news reporting, teaching (including multiple copies for classroom use), scholarship, or research. This does not cover commercially sold products (which is what handango are doing), so i would hope that handango have permission to sell these ringtones (and backgrounds/homescreens). although, i agree, selling background pictures and music for ringtones is a piss-take, and should not be allowed, but, i'm afraid it happens, theres plenty of websites out there 'selling' ringtones for nokia etc., so this is no different, and you cant blame them if theres people gullible enough to buy them.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Any doubts, maybe you should e-mail M&M enterprises at: [email protected] hehe, nm. He's quite the optomist too, look at his full range: http://tinyurl.com/ffz8
Guest HelloDave Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Wonder if it's the same guy who was selling the "spv add on pack" or whatever it was called around christmas? The one where he was charging about a fiver for a few wallpapers and web links. Still if people are dumb enough to pay for ringtones then good luck to em! Probably all ex nokia owners anyway :)
Guest ArtyCarl Posted June 29, 2003 Report Posted June 29, 2003 Anyone can charge for ringtones as long as they pay the necessary copyright charges (Performing Arts Society and the other I can't remember) comes to about 20p per ringtone. I have all the software and thousands of ringtones in all formats as I was going to sell them once upon a time in a moment of weakness.
