Guest Blakey Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 Hi, Is there a ported version of MS Reader for smartphones? Failing that is there a piece of smartphone s/w which reads .lit files? I have a pocket pc, am currently thinking about trading it in and buying a new tanager, but this is something I use on my pocket pc all the time (MS Reader). I also have in excess of 200 books in .lit format and would like to know I could read them on my new phone. Finally, if MSReader, or another app which reads .lit files is not available, can anyone recommend a good eBook reader for the smartphone - and let me know what format the eBooks have to be in - as I'm sure I can convert my .lit files with a bit of work.
Guest TANKERx Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I'm waiting for Mobipocket to be released. I've used it on the Nokia9210 and 7650 and it is awesome! Mobipocket probably wanted to get it on the more mass-market platforms before bringing it onto the MSSmartphone..... but it is coming.
Guest Blakey Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 It looks like a fairly good piece of software but I assume it has its own format for eBooks? I couldn't find anywhere about what format of books it reads?? Also, that doesn't really help me as it's not actually available for smartphones yet...
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 There is a freeware version called Orneta Reader ... but it only supports txt files .. so if possible, you would have to convert your format to txt. The pro version is suppose to support other formats, I have no idea which tho! Also there is a program called Speed Reader Plus - and again, I don't know which formats it supports, as the freeware version from Orneta, has always been enough for my needs! You can probably find both products in the Software Catalogue!
Guest Blakey Posted June 27, 2003 Report Posted June 27, 2003 I couldn't see anything about a "pro" version on their web site, but I've emailed them about it - thanks! Blakey
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 My bad ... apparently there is a "pro" version - which you can pay for. It just doesn't support other formats YET! =) Orneta is a fab company though, as with their other products, you might just be able to persuade them to add a certain format! =)
Guest Blakey Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 I wonder if MS Reader is a proprietory format and they'll not be able to suppport it?
Guest Blakey Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Well, I emailed Orneta and this was their reply: "Yes, we will add LIT format support - in August 2003. Now we are working on PDF format support - to be released in July 2003. Buy the Orneta Reader now and you will get these formats later for free." Sounds like an excellent answer and exactly the one I wanted!! :) I'm deffo going to buy Orneta reader when I (finally!) get a smartphone then! Cheers Blakey
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Hehe Orneta is an excellent company!! Think I'm gonna have to register the extended version as well come August...
Guest Nikhil Posted July 21, 2003 Report Posted July 21, 2003 MobiPocket is releasing a beta version of MobiPocket reader for MS SmartPhone next week according to their customer service...just a heads up to be on the lookout.
