Guest mqarkcambie Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Don't spit at me or anything, but I want to use my Vodafone PAYT sim in my SPV as Vodafone coverage is better than Orange in my area. I have unlocked the phone - de-certified it and am happily using my vodafone sim to make calls and send recieve SMS. But I'd really like to fully use Vodafone's MMS and GPRS services. At the moment I can use GPRS but I think it's going through Orange. - not sure if this is what is actually happening as I've tried pumping in the settings from vodafones website for generic gprs settings. And I know I've definately viewed webpages on the SPV... Has anyone else set their phone up fully for vodafone to use wap mms gprs? and if so what setting did you use? Thanks.
Guest martin Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Don't spit at me or anything, but I want to use my Vodafone PAYT sim in my SPV as Vodafone coverage is better than Orange in my area. This is a smartphone site so we don't particulary care which network you use. As long as you use a smartphone - you're welcome. I have unlocked the phone - de-certified it and am happily using my vodafone sim to make calls and send recieve SMS. Excellent :) But I'd really like to fully use Vodafone's MMS and GPRS services. And I know I've definately viewed webpages on the SPV... I'm a bit confused here :? You have a Vodafone SIM and you can connect to GPRS but you think its going through Orange. There is no GPRS roaming between the UK networks so I doubt very much that this is happening. Are you saying that you can access the Internet with an Orange SIM using the Orange settings but can't access when the Vodafone SIM is inserted ? I had a look at the Vodafone website and I could only find WAP for PAYG and this should be the settings for the SPV. Create proxy connection Description: Vodafone WAP proxy Connects from: The Internet Connects to: WAP network Proxy (name:port): 212.183.137.012 Type: WAP Username: blank Password: blank Create GPRS connection. Description: Vodafone WAP Connects to: The Internet Access point: pp.vodafone.co.uk User name: wap Password: wap Primary DNS: 0.0.0.0 Secondary DNS: 0.0.0.0 IP address: (blank) Create Dial Up WAP Connection Description: Vodafone CSD Connects to: The Internet Country code: 44 Dialling code: 7836 Phone number: 900808 Username: wap Password: wap Domain: (blank) In data connections WAP connection: Voda WAP In Internet Explorer untick 'auto detect settings' and make 'Select Network= Internet network'.
Guest mqarkcambie Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 Wow! what a reply... Thanks martin, It's really given me some settings to get my teeth into. I'll try pumping them into the phone ASAP. I went to the vodafone shop today asking the assistant if he could help set it up, and although at first he "said no problems - it's easy" after he realised he couldn't do an automatic config via SMS, about an hour later after trying to set up the phone manually (which took some effort as he'd never used an SPV before) he finally gave up and suggested posting on a forum or newsgroup! It was worth a try... Thanks for your efforts, I'm sure they'll help a lot. Mark.
