Guest coulhaus Posted June 28, 2003 Report Posted June 28, 2003 I would like to be able to take the in-built "Orange Layout 2" layout and tweak it a bit (i.e. add date, 24hr clock, etc.) but I can't find the XML file anywhere on the phone, can anyone tell me where to find it?
Guest NickB&SPV Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Hi Coulhaus, The XML file is in the main windows file. But most of the files are hidden so you have to go into View on the top of the window then folder options, then click the view tab and finally show all files. The XML is in there, I did copy out one of the Orange Homescreen XML's but after editing it and putting it into IPSMAppliaction DataHome I found that when I came to select it I would not pick it up. I think you may have to try to do the method as if you are un-locking it by doing a Hard Reset and trying to get the XML file in on the Blue Smartphone screen. The full method is in articles section about un-locking your phone. (This may not be the correct method) Hope this helps a little. Good Luck. :)
Guest Richie M Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Er sorry to be a party pooper, but NickB&SPV you are wrong. I think you may have to try to do the method as if you are un-locking it by doing a Hard Reset and trying to get the XML file in on the Blue Smartphone screen. I aint even got a clue what you are trying to do here  Coulhaus, all you have to do is copy the appropriate XML out of the Windows folder using Active Sync, edit it on your PC(most of us use NotePad), change the name of the homescreen in the XML ie " Coulhaus", and finally copy it into IPSMApplication DataHome. Then you can select the homescreen in the normal way, selecting the name you put in the "title" PS it'll be easier to change the XML name to the same as the "title" ie coulhaus.home.xml :)
Guest NickB&SPV Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Cheers for the info Richie M, my problem was that I was not changing the title in the XML file to the name I had saved it as, which was why I could not select it as a homescreen. Please excuse as I am still a XML novice. Sorry about the Hard Reset rubbish I wrote.
Guest coulhaus Posted June 30, 2003 Report Posted June 30, 2003 Thank you both for your help, I did "show all files" but it didn't occur to me that the .home.xml files would have different names from how they appear in the home screen settings. I just opened each of them up and checked the title tag until I found the one I wanted. In case anyone else is interested I made a list (this applies to a UK Orange SPV): Large Font - largefont.home.xml Basic layout - nomru.home.xml Simple - simple.home.xml Orange layout 1 - ukmspim.home.xml Orange layout 1 simple - ukmssimple.home.xml Orange layout 2 - ukpim.home.xml Orange layout 2 simple - uksimple.home.xml Now all I need to do is brush up my XML and I'll be sorted! Cheers.
