Hi - I just got my UK SPV and love it. Now that I am getign more familiar with it, I am looking for advice on the following two things:

1) how do I configure the SPV to be able to send SMS mesages in the US and to international (Germany) recipients? I have my e-mail set up to work great (dials, receives, etc), but I can't figure out how to configure/send a simple text message woithout e-mail.

2) How to I save stuff to the SD card? It does not show in the active synch explorer. It formatted ok, but how do I move/save/install stuff to it?

3) ok, last one - how do I get weather and stock updates - do I need to sign up for tzones, and if so how do I configure it? I currently have the tmobile data service.

thanks, for your help!!

Hi Tina. Welcome to MoDaCo.

1) how do I configure the SPV to be able to send SMS mesages in the US and to international (Germany) recipients? I have my e-mail set up to work great (dials, receives, etc), but I can't figure out how to configure/send a simple text message woithout e-mail.
Go to Inbox/SMS and you will have options New and Menu.

Select New followed by Message, then menu and Add to: (to lists contacts), type message details and send. You'll have to check with T-mobile about international SMS.

2) How to I save stuff to the SD card? It does not show in the active synch explorer. It formatted ok, but how do I move/save/install stuff to it?

On the Microsoft Activesynch screen (double click green icon) there is an explore option. Open Explore and double click My Smartphone. Storage Card should then be showing as a folder. You can now explore the Storage card and copy paste files from the PC.

3) ok, last one - how do I get weather and stock updates - do I need to sign up for tzones, and if so how do I configure it? I currently have the tmobile data service.

You must first have WAP setup on the SPV - see GPRS settings page2. The T-mobile WAP homepage should be wsp://wap.myvoicestream.com. I think you do have to register with T-zones.

See here http://www.t-mobile.com/services/tzones/overview.asp

Hope this helps :)

Hi:

I'm also using the SPV in the US under T-mobile...here are my answers to the best of my knowledge.

To send an SMS...

Compose a new message in inbox and send to a mobile phone number....not an email address. I dont believe the is any configuration as they are sent over the GSM network, not GPRS.

For example...

To: 5556669999

Subject:

Message: This would be your message up to 160 characters.

To save stuff to your SD....

Connect your phone to your PC.

Open ActiveSync.

Click on Explore.

Click on My Smartphone.

Click on Storage Card.

Drag and drop files over to that window.

There is no file syncronization as on PPCs. This is the only method as far as I know.

Weather and Stock Updates....

I have not been able to get TZones (WAP) working on my phone sucessfully or consistently as I never signed up for T-Zones. If you have GPRS enabled thru T-Mobile you could easily browse to websites for this information to websites like MSN Mobile or Yahoo! Mobile or the like, where this information is easily accessable.

You could, as an alternative, log onto T-Mobile's site and set up a MyTmobile account where you can have this information sent to you via SMS at predetermined intervals such as weather everyday at 7:00am and stock info at 7:00am and 12:00pm and 5:00pm....among other info like news, sports, horoscope, etc....but the internet is your best bet for all of this information.

PM me if you would like me to send you a list of mobile favorites for Pocket Internet Explorer.
