Guest Croccy22 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I know that there is a program called smartamp around somewhere but was just wondering is there room for another? Don't like the look of the current ones so was thinking about knocking one up for myself that may include the ability to skin the front end. Will also have a few visulisations maybe. Anyway, i'm gonna have a go and if anyone likes it then you can have a copy. That is of cource if I get it all working at a good speed. Matt
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 SmartAmp never got finished, nor did it have mp3 support. I think theres plenty of space for a second :)
Guest smartphone-web.com Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Yes - do it - post it - so i can get it. :)
Guest Mr_Protozoa Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 SmartAmp never got finished, nor did it have mp3 support. I think theres plenty of space for a second :) 2nd? Aren't there more than that?... WMP PocketMVP Pocket TV (does this do mp3?) [EDIT] Nope [/EDIT] Didn't orange do one too? [EDIT]It doesn't do mp3[/EDIT]
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 2nd independent one, not counting SA (as it doesn't work). Happy? ;p
Guest axe Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 w0000000000t this is really what i'm waiting for ... mp3 / wma support in a good player that 'feels' like winamp .... most wanted functions for me : SEEK in track or jump to #seconds playlist support Volume control , maybe even a basic equaliser... visualisations would be an AWESOME BONUS !!! maybe an idea for the vis.... base it on a .bmp or .png file that we could customize ...
Guest Rob.P Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Visulisations would be the best thing since sliced bread for me, if you can port Geiss plug-in, I'll pay what ever you want :)
Guest madu Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Yes please! And yes as mono said this will be 2nd standalone. I use PocketMVP for my music all the time and it is getting some more extras in it very soon (AFAIK) but a standalone dedicated music player ala winamp would be something we've been waiting for some time now1 Go for it Croccy!
Guest Gorskar Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I would love a dedicated skinnable mp3 player. Windows media player does the job, but if you could knock up something better I would be very gratefull!
Guest Scarfman007 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 This would be *great* for the Smartphone! Would really set it apart from those other phones with mono audio out (cough, Nokia, cough) and v.limited storage capacity (P800 anyone?)! Personally I think that once the basic audio playing capabilities are in place with minimal CPU usage (so peeps could do things in the background) then visualisations should be top priority - given the popularity of screensavers I think people really like showing off their phone regardless of battery usage! A poll is in order methinks? Scarfman
Guest drblow Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Definately a big YES to a new player with visualisation support!!! I love smartamp, and a new version with mp3 support would be nice!
Guest catlas Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I know that there is a program called smartamp around somewhere but was just wondering is there room for another? Don't like the look of the current ones so was thinking about knocking one up for myself that may include the ability to skin the front end. Will also have a few visulisations maybe. That'd be wicked. What I'd love to see more than visualisations or skins is something as intuitive as winamp with a built in playlist/editor.... so you can choose between multiple stored playlists or make them up on the fly and save them. Having said that, visu's would be such a neat party trick
Guest broeren79 Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 yeah! this would be nice. and if you put large-file recognition in it (~80MB) i'll be willing to pay money for it! the visualisation would be of less interest to me!
Guest Trancedancer Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 YES YES YES! I think you could make many people happy with an application like this, INCLUDING ME!! ;-) AND you could make some money on it too, many people would be willing to pay to get a program like the one you describe here! GO FOR IT!!!!!!!!
Guest madu Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 and if you put large-file recognition in it (~80MB) Roger roger! I second that!! Over & out!
Guest muff Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I'm curious, why would you want 80mb+ mp3 files? why wouldn't it be broken down into tracks?
Guest Matt Whitfield Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I'm curious, why would you want 80mb+ mp3 files? why wouldn't it be broken down into tracks? I've got lots of live continuous dance mixes that are ~70/80MB... You could spend some time and effort chopping them up but it might skip and stuff - just better to support large files in the first place.

GO FOR IT!!!!!!!! But you would get much more RESPECT if it was free!!!! :) ;) :D
Guest Croccy22 Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 Ok Have done some developemtn on this and have got a skinable inteface that plays pretty much anything you chuck at it. Only problem I have hit is that the visualisation part of fmod currently does not work on the smartphone as it uses 512 floating point numbers every 25ms. This off course brings the phone to a standstill Hopefully this will be fixed in the next version of fmod. Anyway, will continue development, get a file browser working and playlists etc. And maybe have a visualisation but not one that moves to the music at the moment, more just like a mini screensaver thing. Maybe by the time I finish fmod will be fixed :) Matt
Guest MoRFLeZ Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 It sounds great ... can't wait to test it...
Guest axe Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 I've thought about it, and if it's a really complete player (multiformat, seek, vis, skins) ... I'll even pay for it ...
