Guest jayfive Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 I have heard that it is possible to use a Three sim card in a unlocked 7210, so has anyone tried a three sim in a unlocked SPV, apparently the sim kicks ure phone back to O2 when it detects no 3G hardware. Any help greatly appreciated, we all could do with 750 mins free for 35 quid :). ;)
Guest fozzie Posted July 1, 2003 Report Posted July 1, 2003 Nope, it doesn't work work and it's the 3G phones that use the O2 network when there is no 3G coverage.
Guest Dylan Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Almost got a 3 phone the other day. £35 for 750 mins plus 50 text plus £20 of video calls and the phone for free! Even got video coverage in my area. The only thing that stopped me was that i'd be the only one I know who had one! Makes video calling a bit pointless.
Guest Rob.P Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 ^ Ditto Saw a quality ad from 3 lastnight, if I was easily supseptible to marketing then I would have gone out and bought a 3 phone today.
Guest Ben Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 We had a couple of Three phones at work for a promotion and I wasn't impressed. They felt like 'My-First-Mobile' - very plasticy, the resolution of the screen was naff, and when recording video (not live video calls) you could only do 12 seconds worth! Pointless. Ben.
Guest nellyboy Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 It does work, I have a 'three' phone as part of a 'friends & family' promotion from them and have just had the free period exteneded till Oct 03. When you place the sim in the SPV you will see BT Cellnet in Operator display. You then have all usual voice/txt services, don't know about GPRS haven't tried it. Have used the 3G phone for four months now and have to say it's great when you are on the O2 network but awfull when in a '3' video area. Another example of mobile phone operator's losing sight that first and foremost people want to use their phones to make and receive calls. Calls unexpectantly drop out after 4 or 5 mins when you have full coverage, and you have no chance of using it on the move, handover's (even between 3 cells) don't work properly!!! Have an option to move onto one of their plans at the end of the trial. Think I'll wait till one of the 'proper' operator's launch 3G later this year or early next...
Guest neilfenstein Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 Might be wrong but I heard that there would be no proper network (ie.Voda, Orange etc.) 3G until 2010. Because the infrastructure and technology is still not worth a service provider put their name to.
Guest fozzie Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 It does work.....hmmmm, so does mine now  Have used the 3G phone for four months now and have to say it's great when you are on the O2 network but awfull when in a '3' video area. A 3G phone that is only great when it's on a 2G network. Say no more! Calls unexpectantly drop out after 4 or 5 mins when you have full coverage, and you have no chance of using it on the move, handover's (even between 3 cells) don't work properly!!! Agreed, it's dreadful. In my experience, drop-outs are as bad whether you are in 3G or 2G coverage. My e606's have been chucked on the floor of the car in frustration on many occasions. There is absolutely nothing that the e606 offers that I would give up my SPV for.
Guest Hax Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 The only thing that stopped me was that i'd be the only one I know who had one! Makes video calling a bit pointless. What about your promise to your g/f? Hax
Guest boinging Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 I doubt any of the other companies will launch a 3G service much improved over what 3 can offer now. The first release handsets aren't much compared to the SPV, though I think the new Motorola a920 could be a different story. This is phone that could well have me ditching the SPV. Plus when 3 remove their walled internet, you can use it as a modem. With speeds of over 512k this is what the 3G brings to the party - faster data speeds. Roll on downloading MP3 directly to my phone!
