Guest lorddemondon Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Does anyone know how to add someones birthday without the phone system date being the birthday date? All I seem to be able to do is check the tick box next to the date. It doesn't look like it's possible to input any characters and god knows I've tried.... Any help seriously appreciated.
Guest Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 You can't do it on the phone I'm afraid! :) You need to add the date (and any reminders for it) in Outlook on the PC, it will appear on your phone after the next sync. P.S. - Welcome to MoDaCo!
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Welcome to the site :D Nice bug you found there :) I've never noticed that problem before, you can still add the correct birthday but this needs to be done in Outlook, then Activsync will update the phone contacts for you. Beat me to it Matt ;) I was too busy playing before I replied
Guest Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Beat me to it Matt First time for everything!
Guest lorddemondon Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Thanks Matt and awarner. I expected that might be the case but you never know.... Cheers for the welcome. From this experince I reckon I can definitely say that i'm going to find this forum very useful! :)
Guest Trancedancer Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 ...on most Nokia-phones for example, it's possible to add birthdays and have them repete themselves year after year...it's even a special icon for that in the calendar, I think this should have been possible in a Smartphone! =(
Guest lorddemondon Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Yeah I definitely agree trancedancer... Maybe it's worth a mention to Microsoft (cough, splutter, choke...). But seriously I do agree it seems a shame with all the fantastic features the phone DOES include that they didn't decide to program in what are really some quite basic features on other phones... The calendar, for example, is great for the office worker (I should know, I was one for 6 months lol) on most counts, but even that lacks a few things, like reminders for particular phone calls. I know you can set yourself a diary engagement to do so, as it were, but the old nokia system for phone call reminders was far more relevant to the task. Hopefully though, as the software continues to be updated, a few of these features will find themselves worming their way in... or is that too much to hope for? :?
Guest madu Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I don't see what u mean?!?! I can enter B-day and it reoccurs every year. BUT it only adds an entry to calendar when is synced with Outlook. It has some bugs (ie not syncing that well) but it works. [Contact]>Edit>Scroll_down>Tick Box>Hit right>Enter numbers

It has some bugs (ie not syncing that well) but it works. [Contact]>Edit>Scroll_down>Tick Box>Hit right>Enter numbers I find it eaiser to do all of this on the PC: enter birthday (which then automaticaly gets inserted into the calendar) and set reminder (which incidently you can override the options in the drop down box (you can type "1 week" for example)). Annoyingly you can't add a reminder on the phone itself, which Nokias let you do - so I just do the whole thing on the PC and then sync.
Guest lorddemondon Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 Genii! Thanks both of you! Annoying you can't set the reminder on the phone, but not half as annoying as not being able to enter the birthday on the phone at all! Cheers.
Guest SPVFreak Posted July 18, 2003 Report Posted July 18, 2003 Hi there. I am kind of confused by all this but I am able to enter the birth date of any of my contacts directly from the phone. Once you come to the birthdate section click on the box for the tick and then if you move to the left you can manually enter the day, month and year using the keypad (ie it has the system date but if you move to the left it selects the day and you can enter 20 then it does change.) Am I missing something guys??
