Guest mcwarre Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I am on E50 at the mo. :) I am thinking of changing to Your Plan Orange to Orange off Peak. It will cost £5 more but I will get 150 texts (free fed up with Planus as I get no support with a problem from Asif ;) ). The only thing I am concerned about is that it is a special offer of £20 (save £10). O customer services won't say if that is the permanent price...... Thoughts anyone....... PS My missus has been told that she has to pay an upgrade fee (on top of phone price) as although she has had her phone for 12 months O have extended the qualifying period to 18 months. Probably to do with OFTEL ruling being upheld.
Guest Gorskar Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Id threaten to leave orange if they want an upgrade fee. There is nothing stopping you leaving or cancelling your contract to take out a new one after 12 months.
Guest mcwarre Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I would have to change the old numer tho' wouldn't I? Unless I port it to say a PAYG on another network (if possible) and then re-port it back onto a new contract...
Guest Gorskar Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 You could always change to that virgin no line rental tariff, and then set up a call forwarding to the new phone number. Still you might think keeping the old phone number is worth that fat pile of money Orange want off you...
Guest vijay555 Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 surely orange can't change the upgrade policy without giving you notice... If you signed for 12 month policy, they're oblidged to give you upgrade at 12 months. they can't retrospectively change the terms of the contract you're signed up for. V
Guest mcwarre Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 I looked at the contract. You agree to sign up for 12 months it doesn't mention anything about upgrade fees!
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 "I looked at the contract. You agree to sign up for 12 months it doesn't mention anything about upgrade fees!" I'd be frankly amazed if it mentions "upgrades" at all - they usually take place outside of the 12 months for which the contract is valid. They are, after all, intended to get you sign up for ANOTHER binding 12 month period.

My mate is a solicitor and his (free) opinion is 'Tuff'. Unless it specifically agrees something, they can change it with appropriate notice. Anyone had this :?: :?: :?: I haven't :!: :!: :!:
Guest Big Ron - No Longer a Mem Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 http://www.scancom.co.uk/data/shopdisplayp...Orange+Upgrades Scroll down the the chart. It shows that there IS no "fixed upgrade charge" - it depends entirely on your average spend over the life of your just-expired previous 12 months contract. Orange may be into Feng Shui in a big way (ask 156 about their elephants and "wiggly wall"!) but PSYCHIC they ain't. Not enough to know how much "over bundle" you're going to go for the next year, and not enough to realise what a poison chalice 3G was going to be.
Guest Saif Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Hmmm... well there is a way around this.... Tell Orange that you are going to leave .... If they don't offer you a deal then ask for your personal PUK number and cancel your contract. The PUK number will be valid for 15 days. On the 13th day (so long as it isn't a weekend) you move to another provider - namely virgin. And sit tight. After a couple of days, ask for your PUK number from Virgin and move straight back to Orange on a new connection/Tarrif. this will let you keep hold of your current phone number. This is great in theory... but don't blame me if anything goes wrong... People working in call centres have very little interest in making sure they get things right when doing customer cancellations/transfers. This is the only way I know how to get a better deal with Orange.
Guest Saif Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 oh yeah.. 3G... well... can't wait till Orange are forced into matching their voice tarrifs.... anybody tried yet? I know it states that they won't do it on there t&c's page but they are going to have to offer better voice tarrifs soon..... I hope so anyways.
