Guest matthewjames Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 hi i've just installed sp4 and now my pc won't boot! i can't find the folder with my original files in. any ideas? thanks matthew
Guest matthewjames Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 ps it won't load in safe mode either or last known good configuration
Guest nobznss Posted July 2, 2003 Report Posted July 2, 2003 Try re-installing windows. It'll be a headache, but sounds like your only option. I had the same problem with Windows XP SP 1 and ended up having to reinstall the OS.
Guest youngerpants Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 I'm afraid you have just learnt a lesson i learnt a long time ago. Never install the "even" service packs MS releases
Guest matthewjames Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 thanks!!! if it's any consolation I had a similar problem with SP3, but renaming the old ntoskrnl.exe resolved that problem after a good few hours of panicking!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 Try the MS knowledgebase too (http://support.microsoft.com).
Guest matthewjames Posted July 3, 2003 Report Posted July 3, 2003 thanks monolithix! just posted a message on the 2000 update forum so hopefully i'll hear something.
Guest matthewjames Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Finally got my PC up and running again!!! ran the setup from the CD and one of the options was to repair an existing installation, which it duly did! the only things I seem to have lost are my dial-up network settings and the ability to open Outlook.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 Congrats... :) Incedentally i installed SP4 on a W2k server the other week with no problems...
Guest matthewjames Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 ta monolithix! it's s0d's law isn't it - nobody else who's installed it has had a problem!!! grrrrr!!!
