Guest florin_m Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 Smart had bring the new firmware 1.50. NEW BOOTLOADER v1.04. I'll study it tomorow and I'll let u know. I saw new function in the bootloader :) The DIAG isstill the old 0.97 (only erase ipsm)
Guest Simon Desser Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 Interestingly, this upgrade won't run from the 3 colour "Canary" screen :?: EDIT:- I then ran the update with the phone booted up, (it's got a Smart ROM on it at the mo) and it failed with an "error113" I then had no choice but to run it from the canary screen, and it seems to be running fine now :?Error113.jpg
Guest rodnav Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 hi i've upgraded my SAP to the 1.5 rom and it removed the internet pass through connection. is there a workaround for this?
Guest florin_m Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 Updates : The new bootloader don't accept anymore the comand rbmc and wdata, that mean no more unlocking. To accept that commands u need to enter a password :) comand is password and this will activate the rbmc and wdata (if u want to write or read flash!!!) But this are not the only funct to unlock the phone ;) so realy don't need password to unlock it :D and u can allway downgrade the bootloader (no extra protections added :D ) So for unlock ur phone downgrade ur bootloader to 0.93 or 0.91 or 0.97 Have fun.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 How can we get it round not allowing us to apply the update Florin? P
Guest florin_m Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 change bootloader to 0.93 and it will work :)

Guest Jan Posted July 4, 2003 Report Posted July 4, 2003 I cant boot to my smartphone already.. everytime i powen on my phone.. it automatically goes to bootloader I have the same problem as ejoya  Jan
Guest ejoya Posted July 5, 2003 Report Posted July 5, 2003 i successfully installed the update by using another pc..
Guest ramsespayramid Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 It seems that it is not possible to downgrade the bootloader from 1.04 back to 0.93... Do you have a workaround for this ? I followed the instruction, but i get no menu to choose "save All", "save bootloader" a.s.o. AB
Guest niacin65 Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 To downgrade, you have to get the old bootloader (.98) on an SD card, then boot your phone (strap mode) with the SD card in it, and it will give you the option to load the boot file. You have to use usbterm to format, and copy the bootfile to the SD card, which seems to be the problem right now, as most of us did NOT make a backup of our older bootloader, and it seems it can't be transfered to the SD card by a card reader from a PC, but has to be backed up from the phone directly. I am still waiting for a friend of mine to come over with his phone with the old bootloader so I can copy his to verify if this method will work or not on the new 1.04 "upgraded" phones.....
Guest martin Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 To downgrade bootloader, have a search in these forums for WINHEX For instance here is a topic for locating the Bootloader files and it also has a link to another topic giving some instructions. http://smartphone.modaco.com/viewtopic.php...ighlight=winhex Or maybe you know someone with a phone which contains the old bootloader. Ideally there will be a way to SPV unlock using the new bootloader (that works for everybody). I would wait I bit longer and see what appears.
Guest niacin65 Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 Martin...thanks, BUT, when copying a .whx file (0.98) to an SD card from a PC (via a card reader) the format (fat, fat32) is not the same as the format that the smart phone uses (as far as I can tell). So when you put the SD card in the card reader, (after formatting it via usbterm) win2k asks to format the SD card. Ok, then once you get the .98 file on the SD card, then insert the card into the phone usbterm cannot find the file "pboot". And even when doing a strap boot on the phone with the SD card inside, it doesnt give you the option to load it as it isnt "seen". So other than getting a bootloger file from someone else's phone and saving it to an SD card from THEIR phone, and then installing it via strap menu on MY phone, I dont see any way around this....any sugegstions? BTW, upon searching ALL the threads on Winhex, no one gives any details on how to use Winhex other than to USE it. I have even tried renaming the boot-098.whx file as pboot.whx but that doesnt work either. There must be some proprietary format for the SD card when the phone does a backup.....?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 6, 2003 Report Posted July 6, 2003 I can't really tell from your post...but the card will need to be formated with the FAT16 filesystem, FAT32 is unsupported i believe....
Guest royiel Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Using USBTerm you can format the SD card to prep it for saving a boot loader from another phone. I had to go through the motions after applying the Smart Update v1.50 (Don't do it). Luckly I was able to bring it back after restoring the .98 boot loader and applying the SAP_137.zip update.
Guest Arisme Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 FAT-32 is in fact supported. You can easily backup the SD to your PC if you're using a software that can do "raw reads", and I think Winhex can do that. Personally I'm doing it on a Linux box
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted July 7, 2003 Report Posted July 7, 2003 Maybe i'm thinknig of something else then... :) Cheers for the info
Guest gregbarton Posted July 9, 2003 Report Posted July 9, 2003 i have just upgraded my spvx to smart 1.5 but it has not simlocked it !!!!? my phone is factory unlocked maybe that has something to do with it!?
