Sim-unlock code

I was wondering about sim-unlocking... the code you extract from the phone - is this a perm code!? Designed for this phone in particular, or will it be a different code if you upgrade and get a different bootloader!?

I read someone was having trouble with unlocking their phones, and was just wondering if the old code would work!?

I'm pretty sure it's created from your IMEI, so it should be permanent...
