I've started using MMS alot, and I'm currently working on converting wav to amr. It's been a PAIN so far.

What I do is convert a wav or mp3 to wav 16bit 8 Khz Mono

Then I open up an AMR converter I found (not alot out there!!) and convert it to amr .. the thing is, it makes the voice on the wav sound really odd - really deep.

I'm using a converter that's called AMRConverter from totonox (v.1.1)

I know there is another one out there that the Ericsson owners probably use, but it seems to be in dos, and my laptop running xp doesn't like it! Can't find a win frontend for it either...

I guess what I'm asking is ... has anyone had much luck with converting from wav to amr!?

I've included a zip with the wav file I used .. and the result in amr (if you don't have a plugin - you have to use your phone to hear the latter I guess)

I was thinking, maybe you could just speed up the wav file before converting it to AMR. Like 50% or something like that...

There must be SOME wav genious out there who knows how to do that...

Edited: Solved .. I'm an eeedjit! But it works rather good now, so I'm a happy duck...

Hello!

You have to make sure that the Windows PCM wav file have this Audio Property: Bit Rate=128kbps; Audio sample size=16 bit; Channels=1 (mono); Audio sample rate=8 kHz; Audio format=Windows PCM else it wont work. There is no need to speed up the wav file prior to conversion. The "deep sound" quality is probably due to a stereo instead of a mono format. Better check it.

Ive succesfully converted a number of .wav files to .amr files, with AMR Converter v1.2 (using the above format) and it played quite well. :)

I used Cool Edit Pro v2.0 to work on the wav files and eventually saving them to Windows PCM (.wav) format. You have to save the wav file using the name "test_input.wav" for the AMR Converter to process it. Cut/paste the test_input.wav file in the same folder were you have the file "con_wav2amr.bat". Double click on this file to begin conversion...then you will see a file named "test_input.amr". This is now the .amr file that will play on your mms, right? Right! You can then rename the file to any name you prefer before copying it to your phone. Then finally, paste this file to your smartphone (usually in My Documents/My sounds folder of IPSM or SD card. Now you can attach this amr sound to your mms message instead of doing new amr recording. Mabuhay!!!

it's prolly the sampling rate that get's adjusted ... try saving the .wav file in a sound editor with the right sampling rate to start with ...

then it wont get changed by the amr converter.....

good luck !

Yeah I got it working eventually ... I accidently split my wav after saving it with the right bit-rate .. and the split wave was in stereo *duh*

But it works wonders .. thx!

People are kinda annoyed with me and my MMS full of sounds tho *snort*
