Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Cool! http://www.smartphony.org/stories.php?stor...3/03/19/3104340 Kinda wish I didn't have a car with Sat Nav :) P
Guest Myke Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 looks sweet! though kinda of expensive.. $2.10 per trip plus $/kb :?
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Yeah, i'm sure someone will make one where the map data is held on the SD tho... P
Guest Will Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 smaller maps, continuosly downloading as you progress would be way cool (or is this what this does already?) kinda confused :? Will
Guest Richie M Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I was kinda confused as to how this works, where does the GPS come from? :?
Guest midnight Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 it works the same as car sat nav, you get a small device that connects to your mobi, that receives the positioning data, then the phone connects via gprs to get the map data (presumably so its constantly upto date)
Guest Richie M Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 Thats what i figured, and thats why i was confused, cos there is no mention of the GPS add-on (or did i skim it?) the way it read was it was part of the software :? I've also read somewhere that SD hardware (ie Bluetooth & GPS Cards) are incompatible with the SPV SD Slot/port :)

Guest yatpeak Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Looks like a fake to me... It looks a bit like the Tanager is a streched pic, whip the hand is good quality, but hten again, there are fingerprints on the screen, which make it look real. I believe that it is real, but parts of it make it seem like a hoax. Wyatt
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 This is fully feasible, was demonstrated by at least one company (called Webraska) at the GSM World Congress in Feb. It's no fake, I've seen it work. It's just a port of a PocketPC app they've had for over a year now. Better than what is shown here, in fact, since it actually displays the vector map and moves it as you drive around. You do need a GPS connected to the serial port at the bottom of the phone, tho. Any GPS receiver with a serial output would work, too. Think car-kit+GPS : one connector for Nav, Hands-Free and charger... You do have to pay for each routing request, tho.
Guest madu Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I don't mind paying - just give me the damn software!!!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Alas, Madukrainian old friend... The solution only runs if there is a server-side environment doing all the heavy work. IOW, Orange, or someone else, needs to provide you with the service, using tech sold by Webraska. Having the software is NOT enough. :) I hope Webraska find someone to sell the back-end to soon, because this Nav App really kicks some serious bootie.
Guest midnight Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 richie, you need to read more closely  It uses a gps mouse, which you can put anywhere under the front window of your car.
Guest Brody Posted June 19, 2003 Report Posted June 19, 2003 Here's a few links for more info Webraska WindowsForDevices.com article
