Guest Pinnacle Posted March 19, 2003 Report Posted March 19, 2003 I contacted Palm Digital Media about the prospects of porting their ebook reader to Smartphone. They said they would consider this if more people were interested. Anyone else? The contact link is as follows: http://www.palmdigitalmedia.com/S=53d67b4d...dback.cgi/info/
Guest yatpeak Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Just set my form, I hope they do it. :) Wyatt
Guest Coolboy1982 Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 WELL DOESN'T CURRENTLY LOOK LIKE IT: "We have no current plans to support the Smartphone platform. This would only change if the platform gained significant market share. Thank you for your suggestion. Carl Fristrom Palm Digital Media www.palmdigitalmedia.com"
Guest Pinnacle Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I guess Carl has changed his mind since my email which read: "We haven't seen a lot of requests yet for support of this platform, but if we get more in the future we will certainly consider supporting it. Thank you for your suggestion, and for being a Palm Digital Media customer. Carl Fristrom Palm Digital Media www.palmdigitalmedia.com" I kinda boggles my mind on why they wouldn't port this to Smartphone. It's not like they charge for the reader (except for the Pro versions, I guess)...they'll be collecting more $ from us Smartphone users buying books.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 If they're not charging for the reader, the porting effort will be funded thru their kickback on the books... we're what, 50k SmartPhone users today? How many of us are gonna buy and read eBook only because the reader is available on SmartPhone but not if not? The business model for this is probably not too good.
Guest PeterFry007 Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I looked at the SDK when it went up on MS's web site a few months ago, and it looked like I just need to support non-240x320 screens. This is probably just an afternoon or two's of work, but we've been swamped with a bunch of other product releases. I decided to wait until people asked for the version before moving on to it. I added this to my list for the next release, so although I can't promise anything (hence the vague industry-standard replies that you have received), I plan on adding support for SmartPhones in the next release. I have no idea when that release will be, so don't ask. :^) I'll stop by this forum when I need Beta testers. Thanks, -peter fry palm digital media
Guest Pinnacle Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Wow, Peter, that's all we can ask...thanks for the reply!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Thanks for dropping by! Looking forward to this :)
