Guest frijj2k Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Righty... Heres the latest version of my MOD/XM/S3M/IT player. You can download it from my website here. New features include an improved user interface skin (Thanks to Midnight). Check the readme.txt for added feature list. SOON to support MP2/MP3/OGG/WAV/RAW... Hope you like! Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Any plans for .wma support?
Guest MECX Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 please try and stick WMA support on it as nearly all my music is in this format.
Guest W0lveRine Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I promise I test as soon as it plays mp3s :)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Still works beautifully. Like the new look, and am having fun digging up mod and xm files. MP3 and WMA support will be nice, but don't dismiss these other formats out of hand!
Guest midnight Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 exactly, it is first and foremost a mod(ule) type player
Guest frijj2k Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 You tell 'em Midnight! ;-) It WILL play MP3/Wave etc... on next release... It already can but not in the version I released. Mainly coz... like some people have said it doesnt list IT or S3M files... my version dont list Mp3's....! WHY?!?!? I dunno, I have checked the code and I cant see owt wrong BUT..... the file selection dialog is only a temp bodge job.. will have full browsable tree view soon. Anywayz... Hope you like... I would like as much feedback as possible.... Thanks for your support. Dave :)
Guest midnight Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Frijj2k, i've added the smartamp alpha to my site, hope you dont mind
Guest madu Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Very impressive!! Looking fwd to mp3 support and wave goodbye to WMP - can't wait really!! A simple bass/treble feature would be a real treat too!!
Guest midnight Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 now theres an idea if poossible, everyone has been crying out for bass controls, dunno how its controlled by fmod tho, but may be possible, frijj2k is the man in the know
Guest frijj2k Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Frijj2k, i've added the smartamp alpha to my site, hope you dont mind  Not at all.... now theres an idea if poossible, everyone has been crying out for bass controls, dunno how its controlled by fmod tho, but may be possible, frijj2k is the man in the know  Hmmmm...... its possible i believe but dunno if the SPV has enough processing power. The reason I think this is that I have already tried using the DSP engine and simply by enabling it there was a severe performance hit and that was before I was trying to do a FFT on the audio data to get a spectrum analysis (And as you might know FFT's are quite processor intensive). I will get other stuph done first like playlist, options, file format support sorted first. Dave
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 how about midi support aswell? and if you have time, .avi, .mpg, .wmv and .mov support (fullscrren) :)
Guest frijj2k Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 already planning video support (will merge parts of PocketMVP source) and will take a look at midi.
Guest midnight Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 now, now, calm down  midi could actually be a slight problem, i dont think the spv has the basic soundpacks required for midi (and thats why the ringtones sound so damn terrible), of course, this could be added i suppose
Guest frijj2k Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Hahaha yes..... check http://www.vsoftsol.com/PocketMIDI/ Its open-source (or so I read somewhere) but I cant find the source on the we-site. Might have to contact the author. Should cut it! ;-) Dave
Guest midnight Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 cool, 150mhz+ tho, thats a bit extreme just to play midi
Guest frijj2k Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 true... I havnt looked at the sys req for it yet... its released under GNU GPL so I should be able to get the source then tweak around with it. lowering the sample rates of the instruments should speed it up a bit to start with (although we will loose some sound quality). Still gotta sort other bits out first. Dave
Guest Myke Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 am i the only one who has no idea what MOD/XM/S3M/and IT are?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 No you're not alone, it has been sort of mentioned in this topic but they are all different file formats. Hope fully someone can post more details on what the formats are normally used for etc.
Guest midnight Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 ok, lets try and explain this.... mod, xm, it, s3m are all very similar formats, they originated on the amiga and atari st as a way of playing music in games because at that time there was no such thing as cd/mp3 etc. a mod file (short for module) is a combination of musical data and instruments (samples, mainly wav files). Before mod files the instruments had to be synthesised, and so modules where a huge step forwards in realistic sounding music with proper drumbeats, bass lines and lead instruments. The programs used to create mod files are called 'trackers', and in the early amiga days only had 4 channels (maximim of 4 instruments playing over each other at any one time), and in each of these channels the musical data was inserted, which was a combination of a note, and effects such as delay, volume etc. as time went by the module format was improved to offer many more channels. Generally speaking, mod files can be anywhere from a couple of kilobytes up to a meg or more depending on the number of samples used, length of samples and quality, but most are less than 200k. And what you will find is that music for games on the spv will be in xm/mod/it format simply because we can fit many tunes into a very small size. If you want to download some mod files go to The Mod Archive, which has over 10gb of mod tunes. hope this has helped a little
Guest midnight Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 oh, and even older is the .sid format, which was the commodore 64 music format, and i wanna see a player for that
Guest modfather Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 well well well... i remember when i first asked for someone to code me a modplayer right here on modaco!! SHI...WOW! how much work has been done while i have been gone, my phone has been stolen from me recently... (bye bye 256mb SD! ) and orange still havent replaced it, but i cannot wait to get this bad boy onto my new SPV!!! oh yeah Frijj, r u coming to the modaco meeting? you could show everyone a neat little player for then and impress the bods at MS!!! sweet tho!, regards, Jon Bunce Modfather
Guest frijj2k Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 I may go... not sure yet. I live in Nottingham so its a bit of a mission to get there. I will have to let you know nearer the time. Glad you like the player anywayz.... I should be releasing the next version in a few days time.... It will have WAV/MP3/OGG support and a skinable interface and a better file selection dialog box. Dunno if I will get playlist support into the next release but you can be sure it will get in there eventually. Dave
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 How long do you reckon it will be until it supports video files?
