Guest Chic0 Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 Just read on this site that Nokia have now released software for the 7650 that will enable it to do video recording just like the new 3650. Does anyone know whether Orange will be releasing a future update to enable us to do same thing on SPV? http://www.infosyncworld.com/news/n/3280.html
Guest amo Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 This has been available for a while, there was a danish update for it first though (theres a surprise!) so the only drawback was that the menu's would be in danish. The hardware of the camera on both phones are identical i think.
Guest yatpeak Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 But we can record lots of video on our SPVs, albiet bad quality, whereas the 7650 can only record 9secs apparently. Wyatt
Guest kmon Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 9 secs is as maybe, but i saw a friends 7650 recording video months ago and it is 10x better quailty than what we are expierencing @ the moment, at least 15FPS & instant play back. NOW...... Firstly you can save to SD card from IA Capture (have a look in More Options (I think it's 4)). Secondly the framerate can also be set in the options anywhere from 3 to 20FPS, however due to the interface the camera uses with the SPV, the data transfer speed is very slow, as such the framerate is being hardware limited and won't really go higher then 3FPS so if the interface of BOTH of the phones camera's are the same, how come the 7650's video performance is SO much better????? &, can the SPV's performance be bettered? even tho the serial interface the camera uses (on theSPV ) is limited??? kmon.... better???
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Months ago I downloaded 2 pieces of software for recording video on my 7650. Both used mpeg4 compression, and the quality blows the SPV away. Both were restricted not in recording time, but in file size. This meant, if you videoed something with not so much detail in it (like a subject against a plain white wall perhaps) your recording time increased significantly. I think file size was limited to 100k which sounds tiny, but you could get a good few seconds of decent quality video. IA Camera's files are massive in comparison, and look more like a badly aminated gif than a video. (I'm not whinging, just stating facts)
Guest yatpeak Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Yeah, it's too bad that it can't take good video, but at least it's not as big as the 7650. I think it's easily worth bad video for a phone as sleek as the SPV. Wyatt
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 I agree, I've only used my 7650 once since November, which was when my SPV pi**ed me off so much, I nearly through it out of the window! I figured a hard reset would sort it (which it did) and took that as an opportune time to de-cert it. I've never looked back since :) (Although I still wake up most days thinking I should buy a P800 :? )
Guest yatpeak Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Yeh, P800s are great, but nothing beats the SPV :) ! Wyatt
Guest kmon Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Any explenations for my post above ^ ajb3000 any idea's, why, if the interfaces are the same why then is the 7650's video recorings so much better??? kmon
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 they are not the same, they are 2 entirely different phones with entirely different hardware. The serial interface on the SPV cannot physically transfer data fast enough to make decent quality video. The 7650 must have a faster interface with the camera.
Guest HelloDave Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 The SPV's camera relies on transferring data over a very slow serial port, whereas the 7650's camera is built into the hardware of the phone and isn't restricted by an interface - it's a bit like comparing USB to FireWire. That's why the 7650 has a very fast updating camera preview but the SPV doesn't becuase it's limited by hardware. The SPV still takes better pictures that the 7650 though! Roll on SDIO cameras :)
Guest Chic0 Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 I read that the 7650 was made as a 'camera with a phone' rather than a 'phone with a camera'. THat would explain why its camera is so much better. Still, everything else on the SPV is so much better. I was so nearly a 7650 owner back in September. I was one click away from purchasing it for about £200 on CaRPHONE Warehouse site. Luckily i didnt cause a month later the SPV was announced! :)
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 The actual quality of photos should be about the same as both cameras are 0.3MP, it's just the 7650 can transfer the photos to the phone faster.
Guest v1nn1e Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 It has better night capture features though
Guest mike-oh Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 It has better night capture features though If you're refering to the ability to take pictures in low light level then you're absoulutely right. A friend of mine had her 76brickty out with her the other night and it could take pics in a bar without it looking all red and naffy, the screen update was also a HELL of a lot faster than the SPV.
Guest fraser Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Until these cameras work well in low-level light, they will always be more of a novelty. Most young folks want to take photos in clubs and bars. Nothing interesting ever happens before 10pm anyway... :)
Guest terminater2_uk Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 how do you take video with ia album? i dont have any option for it. do you need the full version as i only have the demo off the sd card?
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 The demo is an old version, there is a new version available from IA, but there is no demo, you have to pay for it.
Guest yatpeak Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I jsut tried the 7650 camera, and it's amazing! It records only 10secs at a time, but I've recorded 4 onto a 7650 with many games. It could probably take more, that's just all I've tried. Wyatt
