Guest Simon Desser Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 I just found this in an advert for the SPV in a brochure for "The Link". I suppose it could be a bit out of date, but it IS what they are handing out in stores?SPV Fax.jpg
Guest madu Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 NICE ONE!!! HAHAHA! Yep!! And a PowerPoint that became availible like 3 month after release of SPV??
Guest spiderboy Posted March 20, 2003 Report Posted March 20, 2003 You can send faxes using the Orange data service. I use it all the time with my phone although it is a bit slow and cant use it with GPRS yet. Read more about it here!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 And the Powerpoint viewer came with the phone... Nice try though Simon.... ;p
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Sending faxes by Orange Data Services does not mean the SPV comes with a fax like the advert says. These services are not specific to the SPV. And I never said that a "Powerpoint Viewer" didn't come with the phone!?
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 fast GPRS connection?? i wouldn't call it that recently!!
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Sorry Simon, I was a ~little~ general :) * points comment in madu's direction ;p
Guest woody Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 its when you don,t use your finger ,like everyone else
Guest Firaas Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 If the SPV's a fax, like the promotional material states, then nothing else would be required to use it as a fax: To take full advantage of this service you need a data enabled phone, a laptop or palmtop, connection to a data service from Orange and connection, by cable or infrared, from your phone to your laptop or palmtop. I think what Orange meant to say is that it's a modem - when's the last time you bought a fax which can't be used without a PC? (Waits for smart ass "I've got a 56k fax modem" replies.)
Guest Simon Desser Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Firaas, I'm not trying to be a smart ass, but my "old" Motorola Accompli 008 (which they can't give away now) worked independantly as a fax machine, even letting you draw sketches on the fax as well as text.

Guest spacemonkey Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Sending faxes by Orange Data Services does not mean the SPV comes with a fax like the advert says. These services are not specific to the SPV. Oh... fair enough... they should also stop advertising that it can make phone calls, cos that's not SPV specific either. But seriously, since they added the fax mechanism to Orange data services just about every phone sold will list fax somewhere in it's list of features... yes Orange have done some things to annoy us, but this is scraping the barrel for reasons to be pissed off. Just remember, they were the first network to take the risk of putting out a Smartphone 2002 device. They're not totally evil
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 what's a dictaphone? Voice recorder dictaphone sounds more important
Guest Honest John Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Since they are advertising things that are not present on the SPV, should they rename themselves "The Missing Link"?
Guest vijay555 Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Can someone tell me who much voice recording you can do. And, can you do voice recording through the hands-free (i don't have spv yet). I my pocketpc i can draw faxes/docs, and using IRDA send a fax through another mobile. Has anything like that been fudged up for SPV? even sending text only fax-messages through NotBad etc would be nice: "URGENT FAX: Vijay must leave the hideously boring planning meeting because his harem of young ladies can no longer keep themselves occupied. If you agree, signify your acceptance by becoming indignant." V
Guest DJHope Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Surely if the SPV contains a modem its actually defined as a FAX/Modem like just about every modem on the planet and hence it does support fax functions.
Guest Hax Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 The advertising isn't so far from the truth - I'm sure that the modem part would support the sending of faxes. Now what would really have annoyed me would have been if they'd advertised it as having "voice dialling"! Thought that was included as I read a review of the SPV in a PC mag and the reviewer's unit definitely *did* have voice dialling. No fair :) Hax
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 More bending the truth slightly ...
Guest h00pyfr00d Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Guys guys guys, can't we all just get along? :)
Guest Hax Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Thought we were?!?!? Just healthy discussion isn't it? Hax
