Guest Nigel Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 I find I have to use the additional keyboard lock to avoid making the occasional unwanted call. I find it very annoying that: 1) when I start the phone I have to enter my SIM code and then also the unlock code. This is unnecessary at this time. 2) even worse: when a call comes in I cannot just say Accept because I have to unlock the keyboard first. The lock should, in my view, only affect outgoing calls - at least an option should allow this. 3) just occasionally there is an automatic lock requesting # (must confess I haven't seen this since the latest upgrade a couple of weeks ago.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 I'm going to move this to H&A as it isnt really a wishlist thread (yet)... I'm not sure why you are having to constantly unlock the keypad... Are you using a different device lock code to your SIM pin1 code? I have mine both the same and do not have to unlock my keypad when entering the SIM pin1 code. As for the keylock affecting incomming calls, i can answer through a locked keypad with no problems. And #3 i'm not sure which you are referring to. If you could be a little more specific with which locks (keypad lock or device lock) you are using and at which times we might be able to provide some more help...
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 I don't have to enter ANY code to undo the keyboard lock just hit softkey1 and then #... Are you sure you're not using Device Lock instead?
Guest Gorskar Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 I'm going to move this to H&A as it isnt really a wishlist thread (yet)... So what's it doing in the Off Topic then?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Er not sure....must have misclicked... :) Moved properly now...

Also are you using the keypad lock in SettingsSecurity as this is what I use. Not really unnecessary as if someone took your phone all they would have to do to use it would be to remove the battery and replacerestart and their away. 2) Strange as I have no problems at all when my phone is locked and I get a call I just accept :? 3) not sure what you mean here? sorry :) unless you mean after you have locked the key pad (ie not automatically) there is a time period where you can still unlock using unlock#
Guest yatpeak Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Maybe while it's in your pocket, the red button is being held down, in which case it will lock the keypad, and will ask you to press the left softkey and then #, but you should be able to answer incoming calls even with that lock on. Guest Lunatech Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Regarding the problem that the keylock just suddenly pops on. My boss says he have the same problem but I havent found an "automatic activation" option for the keylock but I have a feeling that the problem is that when he hangs up the phone he holds the button to long so the keylock goes on. When he then accepts new calls it goes off, but back on when he hangs up (as it is supposed to do when it was on when the incomming call came) Regards, Tony :)

Settings > security > enable phone lock :)
Guest Lunatech Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 But this is the Phone Lock, right? I was talking about the keylock that only looks the keyboard, not the phone. If I try to activate the PhoneLock option in Settings> security> enable phone lock it askes for a password and I guess you have to type the password to open the phone when it has locked. In the "keylock" I only have to press # to open it and I was wondering if there was an option to activate the "keylock" after a set amount of time :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Ah sorry, no, only the device lock i'm afraid...
Guest midnight Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 ah, yes, but if you set the device lock to just one key (eg, 0) then all you need to do to unlock is press 0 then left soft key so it aint really any different than the normal keypad lock, just the two keypresses
Guest Nigel Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Thanks for all your help and advice. I was confused between device lock which I had set to be automatic under Security / Settings (where I think it is called Phone lock just to confuse us). I have now discovered that you can use Key Lock in the Power Off menu to do what I want to do. Unlock with # as you all say. Are Phone Lock, Device Lock and Key Lock three functions or just two? What do I have to do to make the Keypad lock automatically after say 1 minute (which it did on my Ericsson and Nokia before)? Why does device lock make it so difficult to receive a call?
Guest Bazz Posted March 28, 2003 Report Posted March 28, 2003 Two functions. Just to clarify: Keylock locks the keypad only. You cannot set this to happen automatically. You press the unlock softkey and then # to unlock. Device Lock locks the phone with a PIN. You can set it to come on automatically. You must use a PIN. You type the pin and press the unlock softkey to unlock. Therefore with a 1 digit PIN (eg. having your PIN as 1) you can still unlock in 2 key presses - though you will find yourself typing unlock, 1, unlock cause you forget that initial unlock isn't necessary ;-) Bazz
Guest Nigel Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Bazz has confirmed what I thought. Device Lock would be good as it is automatic, but my experience shows that it is a real pain when you get a call as you cannot accept until you have "unlocked". However keyboard lock is imperative when carrying the SPV in its case. I made a couple of unwanted calls without it. So you should be able to automate this feature as well. With the rather "delicate" keyboard" it is not always very easy to set the keyboard lock on a bus or in the train or on a skilift! I would like keyboard lock (and not Device Lock as it is presently configured) to cut in after 60 seconds of non-use.
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 29, 2003 Report Posted March 29, 2003 Add it to-the wish list section

Guest Silverlex02 Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 I read thru this and I was wondering. How do I just lock the keypad so I don't make calls when I don't want to? Thanks
Guest PsychoDave Posted April 26, 2003 Report Posted April 26, 2003 Hi there, Just hold down the red end call button for a few secs or press the quick list key (top left above voice record button) and choose key lock. ;) Have a good one :)

Also you can lock the keypad (slightly! ;) ) quicker by just holding the red phone button (you don't need to leave WMP and go back to the home screen first).
