Guest DJHope Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Not good bet that screen dosnt look so good any more!
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 Thanks for the sympathy guys :) P
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 We all have the problem too ;p
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 well if you want to throw it away, I'll give it a new home. PS What's dust? never had that :)
Guest Lunatech Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 I think its because of the MMC Card slot that the dust comes under the screen. But help is on the way! :) Its actually made a guide to remove the dust. Its found on this URL: http://www.coolsmartphone.com/dust.htm Regards, Tony
Guest midnight Posted March 21, 2003 Report Posted March 21, 2003 using a vacuum cleaner does not work  if you dont mind swallowing dust you may aswell try and suck it out with your mouth (no funny comments please) altho, i've never tried it, never had dust under the screen
Guest Gorskar Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 My SPV has collected a bit of dust now, and somehow a small hair also. I'm loathed to pull it apart though to try and clean it off, so I might just live with it for the moment. I also don't really want to send it back for a replacement, as I'd have to go through the hastle of getting it configured back to how it was before. I think the dust must get in through the speaker because the dust is concentrated at the top of the screen. I did actually try sucking it out with my mouth, but no effect as far as I can see (or taste)!
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 This thread is teetering on the edge of going grossly off-topic, isn't it?
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Not really, its a clear (heh) and current problem with the SPV and apparently now with the Tanager as well... At the very worst we risk going over old ground with "i did this to try and remove the dust" type posts...:) Regardless of all that, if Mr P himself deems this forum the appropriate one to report it in, which i would agree with, then who are we to argue? ;)
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 I was refering to use buccal orifices to clean the phone, but perhaps it is not quite so strange in English ears :)
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 It was 2am, so just teetering on the boarder of coherency on my part... ;p
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Yeah, I was not So coherent myself Last night... There are a post or three I'd rather not reread...
Guest vampyre69 Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Dust? white powdery dust? Guys guys guys you should all know that Class-A's are illegal and showing off another unwritten feautre of your phone is bond to have comebacks. Use a mirror and your SV/Tanager will stay 'dust' free. P.S just kidding around
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Syvwlch: heheh nevermind ;p
Guest kingbing Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Has ansyone actually managed to clear the dust away? Even by taking the phone to bits? I seem to remember someone saying that the screen has a sticky film on it, so even if we do take it to bits, we're either not going to get the dust off, or we're going to make a mess of that sticky film. Anyone got any ideas?
Guest Shuflie Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Well, I've taken mine apart once to remove the dust and got it all of the screen and the clear part of the front case using my girlfirend's makeup brush. Dust is back again though, next time I do it I will probably try putting a thin bead of silicon around the edges of the screen to stop any more getting in. There is a rubber seal around the screen already but it doesn't seem to be doing its job properly
Guest kingbing Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 You don't fancy taking photos of how you took the case off? I want to do it to mine, but don't want to force anything, 'cos I don't want a battered case!
Guest fraser Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 This page has details on disassembly. I've never tried it myself though.
Guest Raify Posted March 26, 2003 Report Posted March 26, 2003 I took mine apart to get rid of dust. I used an anti-static cleaner, which worked for a while but it's impossible to prise the bugger apart without scuffing the case really badly. Now about 2 weeks later there's loads more dust. AAAAggggghhhhh
