Guest simon11 Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 I recieved my first bill for my SPV from Orange. On it there was a charge for gprs 1.0994 Megabytes £8.24. Although I am on the SPVpromotional pack. When I rang up about this they told me it was for internet use. They said that I had connected through to the Orange site through my computer when the spv has been in the cradle. They said that I had been using the Internet rather than the gprs Internet? That I have connected to their service provider and that this is charged at £8.00 a megabyte. I asked them how to stop my spv from connecting to the internet when it is in the cradle. They told me how to turn off the modem in accessories. I have done this but it still tries to connect to the internet when in the cradle. Are they telling me the truth? I did sign up to the orange site to view my account and to get an Orange Email address. But I thought this would be free like on Btopenworld. I only use the Orange site from my computer to view my bill and Emails and not the phone. How do I stop these charges??? Thanks for any reply. Simon.

Guest simon11 Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Who knows? All I know is that when I put the phone in the cradle it asks if it can connect to the internet. I got fed up once or twice of cancelling it so I let it connect. I didn't do anything with it I just carried on using my computer. I don't know why this should give me a charge? I thought it might be something to do with the pass through spinner. But Orange said disconnecting the modem would do it. I am afraid I donn't understand much about how the spv works in connecting to wap, gprs or the internet. I just use it as supplied. I once tried to download something of the orange wap site but it didn't work. I think it was a free game. I rang Orange and they told me that the SPV isn't a true wap phone so that I won't be able to download games onto it from the wap site? I wondered if the charge was because I had signed up to the wap page and tried to download some games?? Simon.
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 If you managed to use WAP that would make sense, but you are charged by the minute with WAP, whereas GPRS is charged by byte. If you try applying the settings in this thread: http://www.modaco.com/viewtopic...thru+setting%2A Then your phone will use your PC's internet connection when connected to the cradle. How does your PC connect to the internet?
