Guest casper508 Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 I have been reading posts where ppl talk about their THIRD replacement phone and their FOURTH replacements and on. So just wondering what the average is like. Cheers Cas
Guest Syvwlch Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Never. But l have a friend who is well into his second. Reason for change was the "stuck on headset profile" bug
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Got mine just before Xmas, still using it. Only time i thought i''d have to get it replaced was when the UK update nearly killed it :)
Guest davy Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Got mine x-mas eve, still got it. Only bug I have is that the led never changes colour (always green) and hasn't from day 1. Still everything else works so not worth the risk of getting a replacement with possible bugs that I have seen listed on this forum.
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 Had mine since November, no probs at all :)
Guest Maverick Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 GPRS wasnt working on the first phone... Orange diagnosed a hardware problem.. Plus it was hanging all the time... So had to replace the phone within 3 days !! No problem whatsoever with the second phone.
Guest Flash Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 On the first one, the screen just froze. Removed, then re-inserted battery, re-booted and nothing - just blank screen. On the second one, keys went a little doodally. None of the function keys did what they were supposed to ie. press a soft key, I'd get a number; press action key, and it would tell me that the emergency number was not available (?)! So I'm now on my third  Funny isn't it. If this had happened with any other product, I'd have returned it, and chosen something else. But I just couldn't do it with the SPV. It must be love! :) ;)
Guest squall Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 my only one would have been easily sortred by a hard reset, shame orange customer service said it was 'unknown if it could be done!' ran out of memory even though there was nothing installed any apps. mind you that was about november, phone was even less known by orange customer services than it is now.
Guest zenabi Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 I've replaced twice since November. First time was due to being stuck on the headset profile. Second was due to dust under screen (and it got stuck on the headset profile on the day of replacement). My third SPV is also getting dust! So a fourth could be needed soon...
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 I'm on my first since just b4 xmas, a friend of mine is on his second, battery kept going flat quickly and then he broke the screen(didn't damage the case though). replacement of both within 24hrs, smart
Guest Myke Posted March 22, 2003 Report Posted March 22, 2003 im still using my original and its running like a champ. good thing though cause i got it off ebay and i live in the US.
Guest yatpeak Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I'm on my first, and it'd better stay in pristine condition, as if it breaks, I'll have to send it back to England. Wyatt
Guest yatpeak Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 By the way, does a hard reset take the phone out of the headset profile? Thanks, Wyatt
Guest mugen Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Got my replacement on Friday - was without it for a couple of weeks, but as I'd dropped it in the toilet, I guess it was my fault.
Guest casper508 Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I'd really like to know the story from people who've voted for option E. Cas
Guest zenabi Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 By the way, does a hard reset take the phone out of the headset profile? No it doesn't, although I'm not sure if any of the new updates have fixed this problem. Can someone please confirm this?
Guest kmon Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 My first came complete with 2 of every thing!!!!>....... camera phone batt 'phones cradle charger the second came with nowt.... but works a bloody treat and that is all i want!! kmon
Guest ferpferp Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 I'm on my second - just got a replacement on Saturday - however it took me 7 phone calls and 2 WEEKS of complaining to Orange to get a replacement. When I complained of it freezing the Tech Support just told me that I'd have to put up with it. I only got a replacement when I said it had shut itself down twice in one day. When the guy finally arranged a replacement he acted like he was doing me the biggest favour in the world! Also said that if it happened again I probably wouldn't get a replacement. Sod that. In my opinion these phones are faulty and as such are under a 1 year guarantee. I think they are losing a lot of money on the SPV and don't want to issue replacements if at all possible. My opinion of orange has plummeted since I got my phone - they have been useless - uninformed and unwilling to help, I've had to call them at least 12 times since I got my phone and they NEVER call back when they say they will. Next time it goes wrong (and I'm sure it will) I'm sending the whole lot back and cancelling my contract. They can take me to court for all I care. A still pissed off, Ferps.
Guest PsychoDave Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 Gotta agree with you there ferpferp. I'm in an ongoing battle with tech support to get a replacement for my phone which keeps turning itself off when its charging. Not so bad you would think but the prob is I can't turn it back on. Tech support keep saying its not service affecting whatever that might mean :? Its been two weeks and god knows how many phonecalls just to be told that someone will call you back again....... Oh well musn't grumble eh. :)
Guest Prototype24 Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 My first one had a dodgy earpeice, then my replacment phone had a dodgy battery which was replaced by OC!
Guest madu Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I have 0 replacements so far. Dust has been prompting me to get a replacement with Orange Care, but I could live with it to avoid a pain in the arse with OCS. Now I have a PROFILE stuck in HEADSET mode. I don't think I can live with it - and it is definitely a hardware fault.. If I push the socket with my nail a little to the bottom/sideways, it shows Normal mode, but as soon as I let go - back to headset. I manage to fix it after each use of handsfree, but it takes a few min to fiddle with the socket each time.. I am getting fed up - soon it will go f***d permanently and I need to get it replaced before that!! PS: I am on Orange Care. How do I go about getting a replacement? Is it delivered to me next day? Or do I need to send my phone off?? Ta.
Guest Coolboy1982 Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 yep, I had the headset bug! actually it disappeared sometimes just before I sent it back, so I posted it with a letter explaining that it did not always appear! Replacement handset is 100% perfect! EDIT: MY 50TH POST! YIPPEEE! ;-) EDIT AGAIN: WOW, NOW I'M A REGULAR!!!! ;-)
Guest Dave.Burn Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 the time has come for a new battery. 3 months old and today it lasted 18hrs with very little use (approx 30mins other than standby) other than that, sweet as the preverbial, touch wood, with many an unsigned app and game.
Guest zenabi Posted March 27, 2003 Report Posted March 27, 2003 PS: I am on Orange Care. How do I go about getting a replacement? Is it delivered to me next day? Or do I need to send my phone off?? Ta. Call them, tell them of your problems and you want a replacement and they should send a courier to your door the next day to swap your faulty handset with a new one (minus battery, sim card, SD card). I had the exact same faults with my SPV(s) and had no problems with customer services.
