Guest spvman Posted December 9, 2002 Report Posted December 9, 2002 the first 24 hours i had my spv i had exactly the same problem - and after i had been on the phone to orange cs for 30 mins trying to sort it out the guy i was talking to said that reports were coming in from many users about the same prob..it turned out to be a problem with orange.net... is you email thru orange by any chance??
Guest Sculli Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 I get exactly the same message when trying to e-mail, but am going through Freeserve. I've checked and re-checked the settings and am receiving mail without a problem.... just not sending.
Guest Shire29 Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 Yep me too. Just config'd the phone with my blueyonder isp ([email protected]). I can download e-mails no problem. Can't view or see attchment s though, but that's covered in another post. I have tried different settings for outgoing mail server but I get the same Admin Error back when sending e-mail. Gah, i've tried different e-mail addresses too but to no avail. I know my blueyonder e-mail is working cus I can send from my desk-top PC. So wot's the deal here ? Cheers, Shire
Guest (so)hai Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 hi, i got the same exact problem and i found out that it's 'cos the outgoing authentication needed... Here is the step, go to inbox, press menu and choose option, then sending and check the server requires authentication. Hope that'll help... :( Merry Christmas to all!!!! :D
Guest Will Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 Anyone else found that using orange smtp, the above post does not work? if so reply, and i'll post my solution. (it's quite complex) Will
Guest Sculli Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 Brilliant! Not sure why the server would require authentication..... but brilliant!
Guest Deako Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 I found that using the:- smtp.orange.net settings worked, even though my email is not with Orange themselves (hope i dont get charged for it). I use Blueyonder and my incoming mail is through them for which i have set up a new mailbox with a specific alias for my spv.
Guest Shire29 Posted December 12, 2002 Report Posted December 12, 2002 Nice one Deako, that was my problem. Although to be fair Orange did actually sort it for me.... :D Firstly today I had a call from an orange rep asking how I was getting on with the SPV. Basically said as this was a new concept for them they were doing a number of checks with customers. Asked me a few questions about my usage of the phone, any probs etc. Also said that in Jan/Feb there will be a few updates to resolve some of the software issues, and some free games to download, he wouldn't go into details, and he couldn't confirm whether the updates would be free or the "new" battery would have to be paid for. Of course I agrued my point's for free battery and updates but that wasn't what the call was about. Anyway he suggested I ring 156, which I did, lovely young Lady, Michelle, said she would phone me back on a landline so I could change the settings on me mobile. Took me through the settings and bugger me if I don't need to put in smtp.ornage.net for my outgoing mail, doh. Course it even says this in the set-up instructions on the orange smartphone web site, double doh  Now working, sending and receiving mail. Like u said though I hope we don't get chartged for these ? Can't send a picture though even through MMS and when selecting the e-mail of one of me contacts  Any ways getting close to perfect  Cheers, Shire
Guest Carnivor Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 well, im on blueyonder and i get this problem with or without the send authentication, any ideas on that? i can recieve fine, also aslong as i send to another of my blueyonder accounts it sends fine
Guest ben1598 Posted April 4, 2003 Report Posted April 4, 2003 Do you have your outgoing server set to smtp.orange.net?
Guest nvkid909 Posted June 28, 2004 Report Posted June 28, 2004 sorry to drag up an old thread, this is after a search i'm having these problems now. if my outbox is empty i can d/l email, but if i have outgoing nothing downloads & it tries forever (then fails) to send. frustrating. i have done a rom update hoping to fix this. setting "smtp.orange...." or checking box "server requires authentication" does not work either. i'm running izymail, the diagnostic prog on the pc says all is fine. could this be a gprs problem?
Guest PaFF Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 There have been posts here and at CHAT about problems with NTLmail recently. Who is your provider?
Guest mcwarre Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 Orange have had ongoing problems for the last 2 - 3 months with their email (both GPRS access, pop access and Web access). Part of the problem is their own fault; they do not scan e-mails for viruses and, as such, often lose 3 out 4 of their servers. Additionally, the smtp.orange.net access is tempremantal at best. It doesn't seem to matter what cell you are in, or indeed what area, as I have tried it in Manchester, York, Lincoln and a few others and have had problems. Basically, Orange need to pull their heads out of their a*ses. I know that it is no help to you Will, but it is Os fault!!
Guest Simon Desser Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004 I know that it is no help to you Will, but it is Os fault!! I doubt whether Will is STILL having problems, that was posted in December 2002  :D :D
Guest nvkid909 Posted June 29, 2004 Report Posted June 29, 2004  aaaahh could this be a combination of funny gprs coverage (recently), & some connection time out, that i think the phone must have, before giving an error message? obviously, stronger signal would improve your chances of connecting before an error message appears! if so, can we adjust the connection time out somewhere in the phone? i say this 'cos i managed to get it to work :!: it's more frustrating cos i now know that it does work but still gives me grief  :x :D
