Guest Tobers Posted December 11, 2002 Report Posted December 11, 2002 Oh dear - just when I was getting used to all the problems, here's another. Remember the first Compaq iPaq. There was an absolute furore over the fact that dust particles were getting under the screen, and the backlight was resulting in the particles showing up as bright white specs. Well, my SPV now has dust under screen, and it's glowing nicely in the backlight's glare. There are 4-5 specs so far, but its very noticeable. You'd have thought they could seal the screen properly, especially after the experience with the iPaq.
Guest Paul [MVP] Posted December 20, 2002 Report Posted December 20, 2002 Where do you carry your SPV? I carry mine in the (awful) belt pouch, and mine is fine. I *really* hope someone brings out a nice carry case (and one that carries the camera too preferably - for when some decent camera s/w comes out!) P
Guest artax Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I have the same problem, I have at least 10 specs of dust under the screen and this happened within a week. I carry the phone in my pocket. I wish they had learnt from the Ipaq fiasco :D Dave
Guest kevlar Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I don't have this problem yet, and haven't had an spv apart yet, but looking at it, it looks like dust must be getting in through the speaker slots. How about a short sharp blast of clean compressed air from one of those cans of air from a camera shop? Kevlar
Guest Thurstan Posted December 22, 2002 Report Posted December 22, 2002 I have quite a lot of dust under mine.. I'm not that bothered but it is an irritation.... I dunno whether I should try the air thing as it might damage the speaker Anyone think of a way of gettin rid of it
Guest Amaze Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Same problem here, but there must be a way to disamble the cover and clean the screen. I will not try the compresed air way. Because compressed air on cans easily leaves ice behind.
Guest Deako Posted December 23, 2002 Report Posted December 23, 2002 Same problem here, but there must be a way to disamble the cover and clean the screen. I will not try the compresed air way. Because compressed air on cans easily leaves ice behind. This usually occurs when you tip them upside down. When used correctly you can avoid this!
Guest Thurstan Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 What d'ya mean Deako? Tip what upside down? My dust problem is getting worse and worse... I'm thinking of sending my phone back (I'm already on my second handset) and getting a new one as I'm still within 28 days. But will there be any guarantee it won't just happen again, as it seems the screens haven't been sealed correctly. Anyone know how to disasemble the screen so it can be cleaned????
Guest jadams Posted December 26, 2002 Report Posted December 26, 2002 I had the dust prob and I tried the can of air thing which did nothing but move them a bit plus liquid came out of the thing and left a stain under the screen which wasnt easily noticeable but was even worse so sent back to orange my new hanset is ok and I have had it in a 6210 case which may have stopped the dust.
Guest wideawake Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 :D Yep dust here as well, 2 weeks old :( Moral of the story, don't keep the phone in your pocket :!: And above all, when you get a finger spot on your screen, do not rub it against your clothes to remove. You are asking for trouble :!: Will Orange accept back for dust problem?
Guest Thurstan Posted December 27, 2002 Report Posted December 27, 2002 yep they will, just make sure they don't try to make you claim against your own insurance for it. My third SPV is to be delivered between 9am and 1pm tomorrow, please be present during that time of there will be a £13 re-delivery blah blah blah
