Guest tbrose Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Hi. I was just wondering if anybody ever found a way to decertify the latest DK-update? I've been checking modaco five times a day since the last update came, but still nobody has gotten it to work - what's happening here? :) Come on, some of you addicts must be able to find a way to break the certification?!! I know of the possibility to "downgrade" to the old update, but I would really hate being without the Danish T9, and don't like all the bugs in there.... Well, hope there's a solution..... Anyway, thanks in advance...
Guest Gorskar Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 There is a solution, but its a complicated one. Basically you need to downgrade to the DK 1 Then you decertify in the normal way. (Optional step to remove Profile Bug - do the UK update first otherwise upon restoring IPSM it will be back after this update. Check it is still decertified, if not decertify again.) Then you need to back up the IPSM. If the bootloader version is higher than 0.93 then you need to use the USBterm program to do this. Now Then do DK 2 update. Then use the USBterm program to restore your IPSM backup. Result: dk2 updated phone without profile bug or certification. As you can see it can be done, but there is an awful lot of messing around required. Perhaps at soem point, someone will post a clean decertified DK1 IPSM with the profile bug removed (its in the registry somewhere) for restoring, which will make this whole process a lot easier. Good luck anyway.
Guest ajb3000 Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Also that doesn't give you a true DK2 phone, as it still uses the IPSM from DK1.
Guest Gorskar Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Yes, admittedly. This is far from a prefect solution, but is the best I can think of at the moment. By doing all the above steps you should end up with the DK2 WinCE version, which will give you your T9, and the extra step of the UK update should solve the profile bug, so the phone should be almost as good as a "proper" DK2 update. Hopefully something better will come along at some point, but the ability to run unsigned apps is something I consider very important in this phone, and would sacrifice a perfect phone for this anyday. (providing its not too major a sacrifice obviously!!)
Guest tbrose Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Thanks Gorskar. I just wish there was an easier method...
Guest muude Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Btw, us Danes can't update to the UK version (or at least I can't)... It says something about the versions not matching (or somthin')...
Guest Gorskar Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Maybe when I get a card reader and another card I'll try and make a nice clean uncertified IPSM for people to upload. If someone does this, then It will cut out a lot of steps, assuming you have a card reader to use. muude - yes I thought that might happen, there is a way round this somewhere on this forum. Ah found it (on www.coolsmartphone.com) Those who did the Denmark Update Now - for you naughty people who did that Denmark update on UK-spec SPV's earlier this year. Tut tut.. :) The nice new UK update doesn't appear to work does it ? Well, luckily Chris (CJSNet) has come to your rescue! ;) Here's his instructions on how to get that UK update. Big thanks to him! Don't forget to backup at least the IPSM first. Try this: 1) Attempt the update once. This will place a file in your SPV's Windows folder called DeviceData.txt 2) Close Setup when it fails and copy DeviceData.txt to your PC 3) Edit "DeviceData.txt" using Notepad and replace just the text ORG_DK with the text ORG_UK (you can leave the version number as is) 4) Set DeviceData.txt as "Read Only" by right-clicking and choosing "Properties" - IMPORTANT! 5) Copy it back to the SPV's Windows folder and agree to overwrite the old file Now run the update Setup again and it should be accepted. This is because the phone is unable to overwrite the DeviceData.txt file due to its read only status, and so it skips that step and just reads it. It then sees you have a ORG_UK phone, not DK (DenmarK), 'cause you tricked it you crafty bugger. I accept no responsibility for anyone trying the above - but it worked for me. You may have a minor issue in that the language settings are a bit mangled - the only way around this is to go to either try the "fix" instructions here or visit your local Orange shop and get the OS flashed. Wehay! :D Thanks Chris!!!! To do the DK2 update after this I'd imagine you just do the same procedure, but swap ORG_UK back to ORG_DK.
Guest muude Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 Think I'll try that... I'll probably get my card reader tomorrow and be home the day after, so then I'm off installing and re-installing and re-installing and re-installing and backing up and re-installing, etc. etc. etc.
Guest Lojt Posted March 24, 2003 Report Posted March 24, 2003 I'll try that one too, as soon someone confirms that it works.
