Guest darksaint Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I got my new SPV yesterday my problem is now that it won´t give me any acces to my 32 mmc sandisk card i can read/write on the card from a seperate card reader that i have but not on the phone wat can cause this bug the spv has been simunlocked and I also tried run an hard reset on it what could be the problem????
Guest amaidment Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 This should probably be in Help & Advice, but we'll have to wait for a mod to move it. I'm having a problem with my 32Mb MMC card too. I don't have a card reader though, so it may just be a faulty card. Whenever I put it in the phone it cannot be seen at all either using SmartExplorer or Explorer from my PC. My 128Mb card works fine though. Both are made by TwinMOS. Does anyone know how I can tell whether the card is faulty? Thanks Adrian
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 They may need to be formatted by the SPV. I've not got a card reader yet, so i can't play, however that may be your problem... You're best off waiting for someone with more experience to suggest a way to remove all files and the filesystem from the SD card, your phone should then ask to format it the next tiem you put it in (the only way i could do this was to do a backup from the old bootloader, not really an option now though if you've updated...).
Guest darksaint Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 yes but how do you format the mmc card on the SPV i can format it with the card reader but nut on the spv anyone know how this is done?
Guest TSCRYPTO Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 If your phone is de-certified, then the task manager has an option for formatting cards (Havent tried it myself though).
Guest Monolithix [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 The SPV will ask to if it can't recognise the filesystem. This makes me think that maybe if you use a card reader first it will put a windows-based filesystem on the card, which the SmartPhone will natively recognise but not be able to read.... Try using USBterm or older bootloader versions (v.93 etc), to back up some part of the ROM to your SD card. If you then take it out and reboot the phone, SmartPhone will ask if you want to format the card as soon as you put the it back in. Edit- forgot about the Taskmanager option as well sorry! :)
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 First off welcome to the site :) It has been posted by many people that some mmc cards for some reason just will not work. There has not been a "reason why" posted but this was reported in the early days, that's why most now people recommend SD and not MMC for the phone.
Guest darksaint Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 thanx for the welcome :) My problem is that i have the new update and haven´t been able to de-certifice it isn´t there some windows program the can handle this formating or some certified program for the spv that can ????
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Not at the moment sorry :) You either need to get a card reader (very cheep from ebuyer.com) or you need to de-cert your phone and use Jacques's excellent Task manager
Guest darksaint Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I have card reader and i can read/write on the card no problems there but when i put the cardin the phone it wont read on it or even reconize it???
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Yep sound like you do have one of the incompatable cards, sorry time to buy an SD replacement :)
Guest darksaint Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 Damn was hoping to find a solution for the problem but it looks like I have to buy a new card unfortunately....so gues i should get one of those sd cards instead?
Guest awarner [MVP] Posted March 23, 2003 Report Posted March 23, 2003 I've been going through old post's with reference to MMC cards not working and all the ones mentioned seem to be scandisk cards, this has been mentioned on both 32Mb and 64MB versions. Go for SD and play safe :)
Guest yatpeak Posted March 25, 2003 Report Posted March 25, 2003 I've used a kodak one, 64mb, and that works, but I've never noticed that all the ones that didn't work were sandisks, maybe it's just them that have the problem... Wyatt
